#BEYONDTHEKEYSTONE (OHIO) MARION FRANKLIN DEFENSIVE LINE DOMINATES IN 8-6 WIN OVER SOUTH @MF_Athletics @ColumbusSouthFB

The only good thing for me to come out of the covid-19 season is the Columbus City League has played Saturday afternoon games, this has given me A chance to cover them and stay closer to home.  Today I made the drive from Buckeye Lake to Marion Franklin high school, A drive that takes 30 minutes. The battle today put Columbus South up against the Red Devils. After all was said and done both defenses held the offenses under 100 yards, the 2nd time I have witnessed this during the season. The strangest part was the winning team had the lesser yardage.

The Red Devils gave the Bulldogs 5-yards away from pay dirt due to A bad snap on A punt and the punter slipping to the ground. The Bulldogs would need three plays to go the 5-yard for the score. On play number three Tyreese Ford plowed in from A yard out, giving us the 6-0 score, with 9:22 left in the quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Maryon Tolbert never got A chance to move because three-player emerged on him as soon as he fielded the kick. Jaylin Galloway would stop  Macheo Brooks on third and eight to force A punt. Galloway would have A super game after all was said and done.  After getting the ball back the Bulldogs found themselves facing A fourth and nine and elected to go for it. Ford would make the catch but took A 6-yard loss thanks to A great play from Jamier Cato, with 4:29 left. Galloway would make another big play when he stopped Taylen James for A loss of five.  Then the Bulldogs DaQuan Simmons would stop Mickail Perry after A 1-yard gain to bring up A fourth and six. The last standout defensive play comes the Red Devils Dimir Thomas sacked Ronmel Robinson.

Taylen James would get the Red Devils offense going when he took off on A 35-yard all the way down to the Bulldogs five. James would put the ball on the ground and the Bulldogs Galloway pounced on it, at the 10:24 mark of the quarter. The Red Devils defense quickly shit down the Bulldogs wing T offense with the big play coming from Dakota Hoston, who sacked Robinson. Staying with the defensive theme the Bulldogs would get A nice play from Simmons, who stopped Michael Griffin on A screen pass for zero yards. Another bad snap on A punt resulted in A 19-yard Red Devils loss. Quannaire Tatum made two outstanding plays for the Red Devils on the Bulldogs ensuing drive. He first stopped Ford for A big loss to bring up A third and thirty, then he got to Robinson stopping him before he could gain an inch.  Needing just 24-yards to tie this one up, the Red Devils went to the air, with the result being A 24-yard touchdown catch by Chrishawn Adams, after A penalty on the P.A.T. the Red Devils elected to go for two and that turned into the right decision, when Mickail Perry crossed the goal line making the score 8-6. The Bulldogs Robinson put the ball on the ground, with 1:03 left, and after the pile cleared the refs signal first down Red Devils.  The Bulldogs defense ended the half with two good plays. First Shermar Lindsey sacked Perry for a loss of five, then it was Galloway pressuring Perry into throwing the ball away.

The third quarter brought two very nice plays, with the first coming from Galloway sacking  Macheo Brooks, then it was A 20-yard run by Perry. Both teams took turns stopping the other as both teams refuse to give the other an inch. As good as the South defense played as A unit, the thing that stuck out to me was the dominant job the Red Devils defensive line did, in stopping the potent South wing T offense.

11:03 remained in this one when Galloway stopped the Red Devils running back short of the chains on fourth and seven. Robinson brought the Vocal Bulldogs crowd to life when he connected with Jerome Dillard but A flag was thrown on South to negate most of the yards gained. The last 2:50 of this one was hectic for both teams. For the Red Devils they A 13-yard gain by Taylen James would go to waste because not only did the drive fade out after the run but another bad snap over the punter’s head was recovered by Keivontah Petty of the Bulldogs. The Red Devils defense would bail out the mistake made by the special team when they got A sack by Matt Ward and then stopped Robinson on fourth and seven to end the game.
