My football doubleheader started with my first trip to Centennial high school in Columbus, to watch the stars play the Northland Vikings. I first want to thank Donte Goosby, who is the head coach at Centennial for letting me know the time of this one and clearing me to take this one in. Also wanted to say it was nice meeting and talking to the Northland head coach, Ryan Sayers after the game. For rosters, I am trying to piece them together using hudl and digitalscout.com.

The Viking defense set the tone early in this one when Gentry Ross stopped Alvin Forte’ for a short loss. Just A little over a minute later Ross, would make an outstanding play blasted the Stars ball carrier holding him to just a 2-yard gain. The defense continued to dominate in this one when Noah Hatem got to punt returner, Japhrone Chapman before A yard was gained. The Stars defense was shining bright with Virgil Wyche Jr throwing Shemar Watson down for A short loss, but A 15-yard penalty was called on the play that gave the Vikings A much needed first down. The Vikings offense would two runs from Shemar Watson that totaled 39-yards. At the 3:09 mark of the quarter, Watson used his feet to pick up A first down when the Vikings were facing A fourth and nine. The drive burnt out on A pick by Tavares Overton, with A little under 3:00 left on the clock. The stars put the ball on the grass on the far side of the field and coming up with it for the Vikings was Gentry Ross right after the pick. Needing just 12-yards to get the game’s first score, the Vikings had worked the ball down to the Stars 1-yard line on three plays. Facing fourth and one, the Vikings called on Watson to run in it but the Stars Noah Hatem had other plans as he stopped him short of the goal line.

After shutting the Stars offense down after being stopped on fourth and one the Vikings Specials teams came up with A big play when someone got A paw on the punt and Rob Dorsey picked it up near the 5-yard line and walked in for the games first score. #68 (NOT ON THE PROGRAM) hit the P.A.T. to make this A 7-0 game just one second into the second quarter. Forte’ had his number called but a fine play from #50 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) made A fine play holding the dangerous runner to no gain. Syquee Womack would be the shining star for Centennial when he found some daylight turned on the afterburners to gain close to 55-yards. The drive like those before fizzled out with no points being scored. Three more defensive plays stood out before the half ended. The first coming when Hatem stopped Watson for A short loss when the Vikings were trying to convert A fourth and six. The Vikings defense got a stoppage of their own when Ross got to Kevin Brown for A short loss. The half ended with Tyreek Gunnell getting A pick for Centennial.

Watson found Japhrone Chapman for 18-yards with 10:24 left in the third. That would be the highlight of the drive as the Stars defense flexed its muscles and put things to an end shortly after the big pass play. Gentry Ross would come up big for the Vikings when he got to Kevin Brown for a loss of 6-yards. A bad snapped caused A stars fumble and making the recovery for Northland was Jaylen Broadus, at the 5:32 mark of the quarter. We finally got the games 2nd score, when Brown raced on from 25-yards out, with the P.A.T. we had ourselves A 14-0 Northland lead, with 4:10 left. The Stars were dimming A little but the light came back into them with 2>26 left in the quarter with Tyreek Gunnell making like Archie Griffin by going 63-yards for the score. The P.A.T. kick was missed by Jacob Barnes leaving this a 14-6 game. The Stars defense ended the quarter when Gregory Howell Jr.
stopped #1 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) for a loss of A yard.

The fourth quarter would see Rayvon Ivery go up the gut of the Stars defense for a 10-yard gain to get things started. The drive would total 12-plays and go for 69-yards, ending with A 15-yard touchdown pass to Japhrone Chapman to make this A 20-6 game. The last big play of the game came on A very good 14-yard run by the Vikings #14 (NOT ON THE ROSTER.) The final score ended 20-6.
