West Sioux punches state final ticket, with 38-35 win over Van Meter

This was the class 1-A semi final and maybe the 2nd best game of the twelve I watched on this weekend.
When all was said and done, it would be West Sioux coming out on top by three points.

The Falcons of West Sioux would soar to a 7-0 lead at the 5:17 mark, when Chase Koopmans electrified the crowd with a 56-yard gallop to the End zone and Jason Topete connected on the point after kick.The drive total 56-yards and lasted just the one play.

It was the Falcons defense that made the next big play, when #23(NOT IN THE PROGRAM) sacked Van Meter quarterback Anthony Potthoff causing a fumble,that (#23) also recovered at the Bulldogs 10-yard line. From there the Falcons offense took two plays to light up the scoreboard again. The score was a Calvin Sieck 5-yard pass to Zach Madden,with 3:17 left on the clock.The point after kick made this a 14-0 game.

The Bulldogs got a 39-yard run from Potthoff ,to set up their first score.
The score came on a 1-yard Potthoff run, with the point after kick coming off the foot of Sam Bardwell to make this a14-7 game after one quarter.

The Bulldogs came up big, when Hunter Coyle recovered the ensuing kickoff, after it was muffed by the return man,at the 11:55 mark of the quarter. The Bulldogs offense would go three and out,as they lost 11-yards on the drive.

At the 9:32 mark of the quarter, the Falcons offense went to the bag of tricks to pick up 50-yards through the air. They pulled off a double reverse with Hunter Dekkers connected with Victor Hernandez. A sack of Dekkers by Hunter Coyle would force the Falcons to settle for a 30-yard field goal by to make this a 17-7 game, with 7:54 left in the half.

Van Meter would respond with a two play,72-yard drive, that ended with a 70-yard catch and run by Zach Drummond. Bardwell made this a 17-14 game, with his point after kick.

West Sioux used a 17-yard run from Dekkers to set up their next score. Dekkers capped of the 10-play,68-yard drive with a one yard plunge into the End zone. The point after kick was successful making this a 24-14 game, with 3:25 left in the exciting opening half.

Van Meter would get a 17-yard run from Potthoff to set up a 27-yatrd pass to Spencer Lamb to make this a 24-21 game, with :27 seconds left in the half. This drive totaled 9 plays and totaled 75-yards.

Van Meter would get a long pass from Potthoff to JJ Richards to convert a third and long, with 9:12 left in the third. Later on the drive facing third and ten Potthoff hooked up with Zach Drummond to move the chains once again. The drive would see another third down conversion be successful, when Ian Aberahamson used his feet to pick up the three yards needed. The 16=play,84 yard drive ended with a 19-yard pass from Potthoff to Richards. The point after kick made this a 28-24 game, with Van Meter now leading.

With 0:31 seconds left in the quarter Chase Koopmans picked up 54-yards, on a nice catch.
The Falcons used that pass to set up a 7-yard touchdown run from Dekkers, after the point after kick the Falcons were back in front 31-28.

The final frame would be as good as the first three and leave the fans breathless and wanting more.
With 7:36 left in the contest,Dekkers connected with Kade Lyniott for a 6-yard score,capping off a 10-play,52-yard drive The point after making this 38-28 game.

Van Meter would get a long pass all the way down to the West Sioux 31-yard line, when Potthoff found Drummond, with 5:28 remaining.
Then at the 2:38 mark Richards made a diving touchdown catch. The point after kick made this a 38-35 game.

Potthoff found Spencer Lamb on fourth and thirteen to keep the drive and hope alive for the Bulldogs, with 0:36 left.
Potthoff dropped back to pass and with 0:09 seconds left, he did everything he could by Logan Koedam drop the quarterback for a loss of eleven yards and forcing a turnover on downs and securing a trip to the state finals for the Falcons.
