The “Bucktown” defense is for real.

Dunmore’s defense shut out the Lakeland offense, with Lakeland’s only points coming off of a fumble return TD, and the Dunmore offense had a huge night as the Bucks rolled over Lakeland 53-6 and won the Lackawanna Conference Division 2 crown.  Dunmore RB Josef Wolff had 3 rushing TD’s and a receiving TD.  Dunmore QB Brady McCormick threw for 3 scores.

Dunmore won the toss and deferred, so Lakeland took the opening kickoff.  The Bucktown defense showed right away why Dunmore has been so dominant this year as they played conservatively on Lakeland’s initial drive to get a feel for their game plan, then put the hammer down and got the ball back.  Dunmore then scored when QB Brady McCormick hit WR Jake Costanzo for a 43-yard TD, and Dunmore had a 7-0 lead with 5:15 left in the 1st quarter.

The Dunmore defense then forced a quick turnover and the Buck offense scored right away when RB Xavier Burke hit paydirt on a 2-yard run to make it 13-0 Dunmore with 3:28 in the 1st quarter.

Another Lakeland drive, another quick change in possession gave Dunmore the ball again.  They drove deep into Lakeland territory and scored on the first play of the 2nd quarter when McCormick hit TE Logan Miller for a 17-yard TD to make it 20-0 with 11:53 left in the 2nd quarter.

And, boy was the 2nd quarter a long one.

Dunmore’s defense got a quick turnover and they turned it into a quick score when RB Josef Wolff ran it in from 24 yards out to make it 26-0 Dunmore with 10:41 left in the half.

On Lakeland’s next drive, Dunmore DB Jackson Harding intercepted a pass from Lakeland QB Chase Rosenkrans and returned it 22 yards for a TD to make it 33-0 with 9:13 left in the half.

The teams then exchanged possessions and on Dunmore’s next drive a great effort by Lakeland LB Luke McFarland got the Chiefs on the board.  McFarland stripped the ball from McCormick and ran it 52 yards for the score, and it was 33-6 Dunmore with 6:15 still to go in the half.

When Dunmore regained possession, Wolff struck again on a 71-yard TD run to make it 39-6 with 5:58 still remaining in the half.

The Dunmore defense again forced a turnover and a short field, and Wolff ran it in from the Lakeland 8 to make it 46-6 Dunmore with 4:04 left in the half.  This invoked the mercy rule for the 2nd half but Dunmore was not yet done in the 1st half.  The Buck defense again forced a 3-and-out and their offense drove quickly into Lakeland territory.  Wolff then struck again as he hauled in a pass from McCormick and rumbled 35 yards in for the score to make it 53-6 heading to the half.

In the 2nd half, both teams put in their backups and with the running clock it was a quick 2nd half.  Neither team scored and the final was 53-6 Dunmore as they claimed the LFC Division 2 crown as well as the #1 seed in the District 2 Class 2A playoffs.  Dunmore will host Holy Redeemer while Lakeland will host Riverside.

After the game I caught up with RB Josef Wolff and I asked him about the big win over the Chiefs:
