Dallas dominates with defense, hammers Pittston Area

After last year’s overtime loss to Pittston Area at home, the first time the Patriots had won in Dallas since 2013, the Mountaineers had something to prove.

They proved it.

The Dallas defense stifled all aspects of the Pittston Area offense and special teams and wore down the Patriot defense on the way to a 35-7 victory at Charley Trippi Stadium.  Dallas RB Hunter Pitcavage had 2 TD runs and QB Talan Geskey ran for a score and threw for another.

Pittston Area won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half, so Dallas took the opening kickoff.  Initially, both teams were assessing the other and played conservatively.  After several changes of possession, Dallas finally put together a nice drive that was capped by a 1-yard keeper by QB Talan Geskey that made it 7-0 Dallas with 19 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

The second quarter featured a number of penalties as both teams got a bit undisciplined, but Dallas righted the ship and had a sustained drive near halftime which ended with a 7-yard TD run by RB Hunter Pitcavage to make it 14-0 Dallas with 2:53 left in the 2nd quarter.

The Dallas defense really stepped it up near the half as the Mounts regained possession, and Geskey executed the hurry-up offense to near perfection as he helped drive the Dallas offense down the field.  With no timeouts remaining and time running out, Geskey then hit WR Tyce Mason in the right corner of the end zone for a 6-yard TD pass to make it 21-0 Dallas at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, the Dallas defense continued right where they left off and stymied the Pittston Area offense.  The Mountaineer offense came right back on the field and Hunter Pitcavage scored on a 2-yard leap over the Patriot defense to make it 28-0 Dallas with 10:25 left in the 3rd quarter.

After the Pittston Area offense was forced to punt it away again from deep in their own end, Dallas’ Mark Saracinaj made a great individual play on special teams when he recovered a blocked punt and returned it 17 yards for the score.  This invoked the mercy rule and Dallas had a 35-0 lead with 8:30 left in the 3rd quarter.

Pittston Area did get on the board against the Dallas defensive reserves late in the 4th quarter.  RB Levi Pisano scored on a 1-yard run to make it 35-7 with 3:31 left in the 4th quarter, but it was too little and too late as Dallas ran out the clock on their next possession and won the game 35-7.

Dallas is now 4-0 and will head home to face the Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack.  Pittston Area dropped to 1-3 and will look to regain some momentum next week as they head on the road to face the Hazleton Area Cougars.
