Chase Carrick capped a dramatic rally with a 10-yard touchdown run in the second overtime as McDowell outlasted Altoona, 47-41, in the District 6-10 Class 6A subregional semifinals on Friday night. Carrick’s walk-off score ended a back-and-forth contest. Trailing 41-34 late in the fourth quarter, McDowell quarterback Evan Kuhn forced overtime with a game-tying 7-yard touchdown pass to Penn State commit Deonte Flemings with 2:58 left in regulation. Kuhn completed 25 of 47 passes for 406 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. His counterpart, Altoona’s Mekhi Jackson, threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns on 12-of-18 passing. McDowell battled back before the intermission. James Feronti caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kuhn, and Carrick followed with a 2-yard run with 45 seconds remaining in the half to give the Trojans a 21-20 lead. Altoona briefly reclaimed the lead on its opening drive of the third quarter, but Carrick responded with a 1-yard touchdown run to tie it at 27-27. In the fourth quarter, Jackson took it in himself from 1 yard out to put Altoona ahead 34-27. Two plays later, Kuhn found Moffett for the 80-yard equalizer.
