Mentor 31, McDowell 30
A failed two-point conversion with just over a minute remaining allowed Mentor High School to escape with a thrilling 31-30 victory over McDowell Friday night. The game-winning defensive stand preserved a slim lead for the Cardinals after McDowell quarterback Evan Kuhn scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:13 left on the clock. Rather than kicking an extra point to tie the game, the Trojans opted to play for the win, but Mentor stopped the conversion attempt short. The dramatic finish followed a wild fourth quarter. With the game deadlocked at 24-24, Mentor’s Cooper Russo scooped up a McDowell fumble and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown, putting the Cardinals ahead 31-24 and setting up the late-game theatrics. Both quarterbacks put up major numbers through the air. Mentor’s Brogan Jones finished the night with 285 passing yards and two touchdowns. Kuhn paced the Trojans in a losing effort, throwing for 243 yards and three touchdowns while adding the final score on the ground.
Lakeview 36, Union City 14
Freshman Luke Johnson accounted for all five touchdowns for Lakeview as the Sailors beat Union City 36-14. Johnson completed 12-of-17 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 52 yards and a score on five carries. Karson Mathieson caught five passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Doyle had a game-high 103 receiving yards and a touchdown on four catches, while Ethan Johnson had three receptions for 59 yards and a score. Union City got 121 rushing yards from Daniel Smith, who scored both of the Bears’ touchdowns.
Reynolds 32, Cochranton 18
Tanner Irvine hit four field goals for Reynolds, including a 50-yarder in the first quarter and a 44-yarder in the second quarter, to power the Raiders to a 32-18 victory over Cochranton Friday night. Connor Belback and Kellen Weaver did the rest of the damage for the Raiders as Belback threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Weaver, who also returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown, while Belback added a 1-yard score in the third quarter. Brayden Williams gave Cochranton a 6-0 lead with a 3-yard run in the first quarter and later added a 4-yard run in the third; the Cardinals’ other touchdown came on Bill Beiter’s 53-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter. Weaver led the way for Reynolds with two catches for 74 yards, while he added 58 yards on the ground, scoring a pair of touchdowns. Noah Carroll passed for 102 yards for Cochranton, while Williams added 29 yards rushing, and Justice Walker caught three balls for 66 yards.
Wilmington 55, Slippery Rock 13
Despite trailing 13-7 at halftime, Wilmington exploded in the 3rd quarter to rout Slippery Rock 55-13 Friday night; the Greyhounds pounded out 401 yards rushing, including 236, and three touchdowns from Chase Mitcheltree. The brothers Cam and Cael Kettering combined to run for 83 and 75 yards, respectively, with Cael finding the end zone twice and Cam once. Jude Beatty also returned a fumble 5 yards for a touchdown, while Zach Rolli returned an interception 25 yards for a score. Mitcheltree scored on runs of 71, 90, and 51 yards, while Cael Kettering found the end zone on runs of 37 and 10 yards, with Cam scoring on an 11-yard run. Slippery Rock actually took the lead heading into the locker room when Logan Schlobohm caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from John Petras with 8 seconds to go in the half. The Rockets also got field goals of 25 and 30 yards from Zach Lasko, while Mitcheltree opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 71-yard touchdown run.
Greenville 30, Mercyhurst Prep 20
Greenville secured a thrilling 30-20 season-opening victory over Mercyhurst Prep, powered by a two-touchdown performance from Kyle McGirr. Greenville took an early 8-0 lead in the first quarter when Landon Porter punched in a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful two-point conversion. Mercyhurst Prep responded later in the period when track standout Vinnie Feliciano scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 5-yard run. A failed two-point conversion kept the score at 8-6. The Trojans extended their lead to 16-6 in the second quarter by converting a fourth-and-goal from the 15-yard line into a touchdown pass from Cael Thruber to Tavaine Williams, capped by another two-point conversion. Feliciano quickly answered for the Lakers, breaking loose for a 44-yard touchdown sprint to narrow the gap to 16-12. However, Greenville reclaimed momentum just 45 seconds before halftime when McGirr scored his first touchdown on a 5-yard run, making it 22-12. Mercyhurst Prep opened the second half with a scoring drive, as Feliciano found the end zone from 9 yards out. A successful two-point conversion trimmed Greenville’s lead to 22-20. Cambridge Springs 21, Rochester 8
Cambridge Springs made the long journey to Beaver County to take on Rochester of the WPIAL, and the Blue Devils came out victorious despite completing only one pass in the football game. The Blue Devils got 143 yards rushing and a score from Wyatt Keem and also had a touchdown run from quarterback Dale Smith, who completed one pass for 30 yards to Kaydin McFarren. Cambridge Springs also found the end zone when Robert Smith blocked a Rochester punt and returned it for a score.
Iroquois 35, Eisenhower 20
Iroquois scored 25 points in the second half, breaking open their slim 10-7 halftime lead. Chase Cocolin threw two touchdowns to Jy’sere Wayne, covering 30 and 26 yards. Donovan Brown returned a fumble 43 yards for a touchdown before Donovan Berry closed the scoring with a 53-yard run. Iroquois took a 10-7 lead into the locker room thanks to Camden Armbruster booting a field goal and Cameron Cadden scoring on a 1-yard run. Ollie Boozer scored on a 16-yard touchdown run for Eisenhower. Joe Gigiotti scored on runs of 10 and 9 yards for the Knights. Cocolin completed 10 of 16 passes for 194 yards and two scores. Wayne added five catches for 131 yards, while Cadden and Barry ran for 60 and 85 yards, respectively, each finding the end zone.
Girard 19, Saegertown 16
Ryan St. Julien scored all three of Girard’s touchdowns to carry the Yellowjackets to a thrilling 19-16 victory over Saegertown. The dynamic playmaker turned in a stellar dual-threat performance, with 169 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air. St. Julien then called his own number to rush for a third touchdown to seal the hard-fought win for Girard.
Conneaut 60, Northwestern 23
Conneaut’s multi-faceted attack powered Conneaut to a 60-23 victory over Northwestern, fueled by dominant performances from Aidan Ford, Nick Street, and Mason Stone. Ford ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Mason Stone threw for 205 yards and a pair of scores, while Street returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Warren 34, Seneca 21
Warren snapped a four-year drought on their home turf with a 34-21 victory over Seneca. Aiden Eger ran for 239 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. His final score, a 92-yard burst late in the third quarter, highlighted his evening. He opened the scoring with a 60-yard touchdown run. Parker Kiser connected with Grant May on touchdown passes of 72 and 62 yards. Kiser finished the night 2-of-3 passing for 134 yards. Seneca countered Warren’s first three scores. The Bobcats scored on RJ Orton’s 2-yard run to take a 7-6 lead. After May’s 72-yard touchdown, Seneca tied the game at 14-14 before halftime on a 34-yard pass from Boyd to Donovan Huzinec. The Boyd-to-Huzinec connection struck again in the second half, this time on a 31-yard touchdown pass. The score cut the deficit to one, 22-21. Ayden Corbett scored midway through the fourth quarter on a 2-yard touchdown to close the scoring. Boyd completed 9 of 16 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 32 rushing yards on 11 carries. Huzinec caught seven passes for 132 yards. Orton led the Seneca ground game with 52 yards on 16 carries.
Grove City 42, Corry 7
Grove City outgained Corry 502 to 203 in total yards to secure a 42-7 victory. Gavin Purdy ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries, while adding 84 yards on six catches. Heath Hohman went 21-of-33 passing for 292 yards; Charlie Miller caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. The Hohman-to-Miller connection broke a scoreless tie in the first quarter with a 23-yard touchdown strike. Zach Mathieson scored on a 2-yard run before Purdy’s back-to-back touchdown runs of 37 and 19 yards. Grove City led 28-0 at halftime. Corry managed to score in the third quarter when Jack Vanchieri scored on a 5-yard run. Vanchieri finished 11-of-17 passing for 129 yards, and teammate Lamech Albers ran for 69 yards on six carries. The Eagles added a pair offourth-quarter touchdowns on Purdy’s and Hohman’s 12-yard pass to Miller.
Fort LeBoeuf 49, Fairview 14
Fort LeBoeuf exploded for 28 unanswered points in the third quarter to break open a close game and roll to a 49-14 victory over Fairview. The Bison held a slim 21-14 lead at halftime before their third-quarter surge put the game out of reach. Aidan Struchen spearheaded the Fort LeBoeuf offense, turning 14 carries into 70 yards and finding the end zone four times. Dual-threat quarterback Dominic Walters kept the Fairview defense off balance all night. Walters completed 14-of-21 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown, while also leading the Bison on the ground with 88 rushing yards and a score on 15 carries. Xavi Walters was the primary target, hauling in seven receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown.
Harbor Creek 28, North East 20
Gavin Zillman ran for 252 yards and four touchdowns to power Harbor Creek back from a deficit and secure a 28-20 victory over North East. The Grape Pickers led 20-14, thanks to two touchdown passes from Bryson Galloway. However, the momentum shifted late in the third quarter. With just 2:06 remaining in the period, Zillman scored on a 28-yard touchdown run. Zillman then iced the game for the Huskies, punching in his fourth and final rushing touchdown of the night with 2:48 left on the clock to seal the victory.
Cathedral Prep 15, Sharon 13
A third-quarter safety proved the difference as Cathedral Prep knocked off Sharon for a 15-13 victory. The Ramblers built an early 13-0 lead. After Sharon muffed a Prep punt, Tucker Palotas scooped up the ball and raced 30 yards for the game’s opening touchdown. Prep struck again when DaZaire Carson scored on a 5-yard run. Sharon’s Xavionne Wilbon-Venable ignited a second-half rally. With 5:31 remaining in the third quarter, Wilbon-Venable returned a Prep fumble 43 yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 13-6. Late in the third quarter, the safety extended the lead to 15-6. Wilbon-Venable then intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown.
Titusville 41, Franklin 13
A dominant four-touchdown display by quarterback Hunter Martin guided Titusville to a 41-13 win over Franklin. Martin threw first-half touchdowns to Dalton Knapp and Adam Reynolds before scoring on a 1-yard sneak to give the Rockets an early 21-0 advantage. Franklin answered late in the second quarter with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Harrison Doty to Caleb Mincer. Titusville pulled away for good in the third quarter via a 22-yard touchdown run by Martin and a pick-six frFranklin’ss. Franklin’s Mincer provided a late highlight with an explosive 78-yard touchdown run, finishing the night with 163 rushing yards and 105 receiving yards in the loss.
General McLane 21, Central Clarion 15 – OT
Josh Caro scored on a 10-yard run in overtime to lift General McLane to a 21-15 victory over Central Clarion on Friday night at Clarion High School. The Lancers had to overcome an early 9-0 deficit after Ethan Rex caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Carter Hindman and a safety occurred early in the second quarter. General McLane responded before halftime when Gabe Montroy caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Caro. However, a 54-yard touchdown pass from Hindman to Jackson Mravintz extended the Central Clarion lead to 15-7. Luke Murosky then caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Caro with just 14 seconds left in the contest, and a successful two-point conversion forced overtime. Caro threw for 158 yards while rushing for 42 yards. PJ Mitchell and Charlie Bennett ran for 45 and 41 yards, respectively, for General McLane. Central Clarion received 75 rushing yards from Brody Beggs and 164 passing yards from Hindman.

Westinghouse 20, Hickory 6
Westinghouse scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from Hickory 20-6 Saturday afternoon at the Wolvarena in Dai’Saunneek. Dai’Saun Blanchard scored on a 1-yard run, giving Westinghouse the lead early in the second quarter after the Hornets lost a fumble at their 1-yard line. Hickory responded with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Christian Dungee to Jadon Phillips; however, the Hornets mustered little else for the rest of the game. K’shawnn Hawkins and Dameon Hill added fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 12 and 25 yards for the Bulldogs. Hill ran for a game-high 81 yards on 13 carries while Virginia Tech recruit Kelvin Morrison was limited to just 10 yards on 13 carries.
Maplewood 58, Mercer 6
The Tigers scored on their first three offensive plays and never looked back.
Farrell 33, Clairton 6
In a highly anticipated contest at the Wolvarena in Turtle Creek, the matchup between defending Class A state champion Clairton and defending Double-A runner-up Farrell turned into a one-sided blowout as the Steelers flexed their muscles against their old WPIAL foe. The Steelers limited Clairton to only 29 yards of total offense. In comparison, the Steelers offense did its job: Aaron Pegues completed 14 of 22 passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns, including touchdowns of 11 and 44 yards to Dey’Mar Cain and 29 yards to twin brother Dorean to open the scoring late in the first quarter. Pegues also scored on a 2-yard run and added 32 yards rushing. Jaden King-Vincent also returned a punt 30 yards. Clairton’s lone touchdown came in the closing minutes, down 33 -0, on a 4-yard run by Keith Craven.
Erie 14, DuBois 12
Jack Musone threw a pair of touchdowns for Erie High as the Royals held off DuBois 14-12 Saturday night at Veterans Stadium. Musone threw touchdown passes of 16 yards to Amir Hansbrew and 32 yards to Julian Leone. The Beavers pulled within two points on a 46-yard touchdown run by Dalton Reasinger with 6:38 left; however, Erie dropped the two-point conversion to preserve the Royals’ lead. Dubois ‘ other touchdown came on a 20-yard pass from Seth Wilmoth to Josiah Brackman.
Sharpsville 35, Union Area 32
In a game that saw eight touchdowns in the first half, Sharpsville opened up their 2026 campaign with a thrilling 35-32 victory over Union Area. The Blue Devils scored on their opening play of the season when Landen Hassell scored on a 55-yard touchdown run; later in the first quarter, Brady Gerlach threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Koncar. However, Union would fight back and pull to within two at the half. The Scotties got a 15-yard touchdown run from Zion Walters, who also returned a kickoff 75 yards for whileSharpsville’ssharpsville’ss Geno Curry added a 54-yard touchdown run.
Oil City 14, Meadville 8
The Oilers limited the Bulldogs to only 104 yards of total offense as the defending District 10 AAAA champions improved to 1-0,
