The pack has begun to thin out. One week after another, teams fall and their time has come to end this season. Two teams though have done their job as they now train to win a state playoff game. For this opening round match-up two schools that are a mere six miles from each other due battle.
The Game:
Saturday, November 19, 2022
Kickoff: 1:00 pm
Ridley High School 901 Morton Ave, Folsom, Pa 19033
Details:
District 12 4A Champions Bonner-Prendie Friars
Head Coach Jack Muldoon
League: Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division
This season: (10-1) Overall (5-0) League
Last week: defeated Bartram 53-8
Friars Notables: The Friars enter this week’s game riding a 9-game winning streak, which gives them a spot in PFN’s honorable mentions. Offensively, Avery Hankey leads the team in rushing with 985 yards, rushing on 153 carries and ten touchdowns. Quarterback Justin Shepherd has thrown for 1042 yards and 18 touchdowns. Jalil Hall is the team’s leading receiver with 503 yards on only 24 receptions and 11 touchdowns. Defensively the Friars are anchored by Isaiah Sessions 70 tackles, Nick Smith (56), and Mylacchi Williams, who has 11 sacks this season. Wykil Fowler leads the team with two interceptions.
District 1 4A Champions Interboro Buccaneers
Head Coach: Dennis Lux
League: Delaware Valley League
This season: (10-2) Overall (3-1) League
Last week: defeated Pope John Paull II 38-14
Bucs Notables: If the saying “physical football team” had a dictionary definition, it would be Inteboro. Between the tackles, or out around the edge it does not matter for RB/DB Abu Kamara. With his 2,649 rushing yards, he set a Delco single-season record. Those rushing yards also sit him in 14th place nationally, second in the state, and first in D1, 4A, and Del Val. Kamara is not just a “throw stats on paper” player. He is a true leader who is consistently ready to hype his team up and charge into battle. He is assisted by his QB Julian Bulovas that can without a doubt throw the ball downfield. A QB is not complete without his receivers. For Bulovas he is blessed with shifty Dom Gunter. The duo stays lethal snap after snap. Defensively, a conglomerate of players share the limelight. Whether it is Tolu Awoyemi, Anthony Barr, Samir Mosley, or Theo Demopolus they get the job done. Even though they get it done, for Coach Dennis Lux the job is not finished. There remains a lingering sense of dissatisfaction. Each win, week after week are all just a stepping stone to the glory of the state championship which every team has their eyes set on. South Ave now enters the rearview mirror, because from here on out they see neutral sight after netural sight.
