6A DISTRICT 1 SEMI GOES TO COATESVILLE 42-7 OVER GARNET VALLEY

(Coatesville, PA) When your playing this late into November, all games are huge.  When an undefeated Garnet Valley marched into Coatesville Friday night matched up against an undefeated Coatesville squad something was going to give in the District One 6A tourney.  The Coatesville started out fast, then sat back and watched its defense dominate and bring home a 42-7 win over Garnet Valley Friday Night.

Everyone pointed to an outstanding performance by the Red Raider offensive line and defense as the reason for the lopsided victory.  Benefiting from that great blocking were Running Back Aaron Young and Quarterback Ricky Ortega.  Young scored four TD’s one of which was a 70 yard sprint.  One of Ortega’s two TD’s was a sparkling 57 yard tackle breaking bolt early in quarter two.

Coatesville Head Coach Matt Ortega had high praise for his offensive line after the game. “our o-line just goes unseen every week, we really feel we have the guys up front that allow us to run the ball.  Quarterback Ricky Ortega could not say enough good things about the Red Raider defense.  “I think the defense is the strength of this team.”  Aaron Young had a great night running the ball because the Red Raiders took advantage of what the defense gave them.  “We saw them trying to shut down the pass and the run was open and we took it.”

Each team started out as most playoff games do, conservative play calling to get the teams legs under them.  Finally late in quarter one Coatesville mounted a drive.  Aaron Young then scored the first of his four touchdowns on the night to make it 7-0 Red Raiders

Quickly Coatesville opened the margin to 14-0 on another Aaron Young TD this one from 70 yards.

The momentum really started to build towards the Red Raiders in quarter two when Quarterback Ricky Ortega would not be denied from 57 yards.

There was no quit in Garnet Valley.  The Jaguars moved right down the field. But as they were getting ready to score, a key pick six threw all the momentum back the Red Raiders direction.

Garnet Valley played a respectable half of football and all they had to show for it was being down 28-0 on four big plays.

The Jaguars got the second half kick and marched right down the field.  A nice TD toss from QB Cole Palis seemed to turn momentum around…for about a minute

That’s how long I took for Coatesville to open the lead back up on the legs of an Aaron Young 43 yard run  35-7 now.  That’s how quarter three would end with the Red Raiders in control 35-7.

Ricky Ortega’s TD closed out the scoring and the final was 42-7 Red Raiders over the Jaguars.

Its on the District One 6A final once again for Coatesville.  The Red Raiders will face off against another undefeated opponent the (13-0) North Penn Knights.  The loss to Coatesville was Garnet Valleys only blemish on there record this season.
