Bensalem discusses their plan in the huddle during a timeout.

Friday night served as the Homecoming for the Council Rock North Indians (CR-N) as they played host to the Owls of Bensalem High School. I’d like to take this time to give a shout out to the student section for Council Rock North because you brought the noise the entire game. Great job on your Pink Out in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

I would also like to say congratulations to all those who participated and were selected to each of their grade’s homecoming court. Both teams were feeling great heading into the conference showdown. The week before Bensalem (3-2) (2-1) took care of Harry S. Truman 47-12 and due to COVID, Council Rock North (2-3) (1-2) nabbed a 2-0 (forfeit) win over Hatboro Horsham. Bensalems’ offense was averaging 30.6 points per game and Council Rock North’s defense was allowing an average of 25.2 points per game. Everyone, to include myself thought that this would be a one-sided contest. Man was I glad I was wrong.

Both team’s defenses showed up this evening and didn’t want to be the first to let their opponent score.

Bensalem coach Alex Houston said after the game, “Our defense came up Huge.” “At one point in the game, they got a turnover on our ten, and we stopped them and then the field goal.” “Terrel Roane, who plays defensive line for us, blocked both of their kicks. They have a real good kicker, and he blocked both of their attempts. That’s the story of the game. It’s one of those things – everybody has to contribute from the top of the roster to the bottom of the roster. The coaches – we stay composed.”

It wasn’t until 4:41 left in the fourth quarter when senior running back Josiah Leonard broke free from multiple CR-N defenders for a hard fought twenty-three-yard score, which proved to be all that was needed to secure the victory and spoil Council Rock Norths’ homecoming.

Next week Council Rock North (2-4) (1-3) takes on Central Bucks East (4-1) (3-0) who plays later today against Pennsbury (0-5) (0-3) at home. Bensalem hosts Pennridge (3-3) (2-2) who is coming off a tough loss to undefeated North Penn.
