Bristol’s Kyleal Cottrell led the way offensively for the Warriors in victory over the Hawks 35 to 14 at Hawk Hill !

Bristol’s Kyleal Cottrell and offense, wasted no time showcasing the speed and skills when on the opening whistle, Cottrell returned the kickoff to the Hamburg 36 yard line, just 3 runs later, the Warriors had a 6 to 0 lead when Senior RB-Braylen Williams ran to the right, cut it back to the middle and put it in for the score, the PAT failed, 10:27 still to go in the opening quarter. Hamburg would put together a solid 9 play drive following the score only to have that drive stopped on a no yard gain on 4th and 10 at the Warrior 41.

The Hawks got the ball back again after a short drive by Bristol. On the drive, Hamburg soon learned the size of the big man on the edge, the 6’9 Senior Christian Manning. Manning had two pass blocks in the game, including the one on this drive that had the Hawks at 4th and 2 at their own 32 when they’d go for the fake punt and gain just enough to keep the drive going. Unfortunately, the drive ended shortly after the 1st quarter ended with the score still 6 to 0 Warriors. With just over 9 minutes to go until halftime, the Warriors put together a drive going 70 yards, on 5 plays when the Senior QB-Brady Slate, ran in from 3 yards out, giving the Warriors a 13 to 0 lead. Bristol’s next score came 7 plays into their next drive, capped off with the first of 3 total touchdowns for Kyleal Cottrell when he hauled in the pass for 14 yards and the score, giving the Warriors a 19 to 0 lead now with 4:26 to go till halftime.

Hamburg fumbled on their next possession when the pitch to Hawks RB-Thomas Johnson went bad and Bristol recovered, on the following play from the Warriors, the ball was fumbled back to the Hawks when Warriors quarterback Brady Slate was sacked by Senior OLB Michael Smith. The turnover didn’t hurt the Warriors much however because on the Bristol following drive, the Warriors added to their lead with the second receiving touchdown by Kyleal, this one going for 55 yards with just 1:32 left, going into halftime with a score of 26 to 0.

Hamburg received the kickoff to begin the second half, and started to have some miscues snapping the ball when 2 bad snaps caused quarterback McFadden to fumble the ball, eventually turning the ball over on downs. The Hawks defense kept the Warriors in check on their next drive keeping them from the endzone, holding them to just a field-goal from 30 yards out by the Warrior kicker, Hawks now trailing 29 to 0 with 5:37 to go in the 3rd quarter.

The Hawks eventually got on the board when quarterback Issac McFadden and the powerful FB/TE-Bryce Schmeck led the offense on the drive, going 77 yards on 9 plays finished off with the 2 yard touchdown run by McFadden with 1:41 to go in the 3rd, cutting the lead to 29 to 7. Hamburg closed the gap even closer when in the 4th quarter, with 9:10 to play, the Hawks went 64 yards on another 9 play drive, ending in a McFadden to Ethan Horvath pass, catch for 16 yards and the score, the score now 29 to 14 Bristol still leading.

Bristol had no intentions in letting the Hawks get any closer when on the ensuing kickoff, playmaker of the game, Kyleal Cottrell struck again with an 81 yard to the house run to extend the lead back to 21, leading 35 to 14 with 8:55 to go in the game. Hamburg followed that up turning the ball over to the Warriors twice more before the game eventually ended, giving the Warriors the victory 35 to 14 over the Hawks at Hawk Hill and Hamburg.

Next up for the District 1 Warriors now 2-1, is a road matchup vs. the 1-2 Executive Education Charter Academy Raptors who won their last game against Central Columbia 49 to 8.

Next up for the District 3 Hawks now 1-2, is a home game matchup vs. the 2-1 Annville-Cleona Dutchmen who are coming off a 21 to 13 loss to Littlestown.
