Clippers Starters Score 72 Points

Two of the most historic teams in high school football kicked off their seasons at the Chester Athletic Complex; with Gator manning the grill cooking up jerk chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers, the Chester Cheerleaders took their spots, the DJ had the music humming and with the Voice of DELCO sports Dave Burman on the mic, it was an electric atmosphere. As the Lancers of Central entering their 155th season, the host Clippers of Chester their 133rd season, stood for the National Anthem, the City of Chester awaited in anticipation of the continued climb of the football to past glory. Chester coming off four straight losses to end last year’s season, lost many of their stars to graduation, but still had a strong nucleus of returning players and maybe the most highly touted group of freshmen in the state. Just minutes after the kickoff the game was no longer in doubt, Chester’s high powered offense would score at will, while it’s tenuous defense held the Lancers to 12 total yards.

Chester raced out to a 28-0 first quarter lead and would never look back Freshman Quarterback  Jalen Harris did not disappoint, he threw short balls with touch and launched deep passes of 60 plus yards on a string. For the game Harris was 12-14 for 311. His main target Cymeer Brown had 5 catches for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns. Tight end Domic Toy had 128 yards on 6 receptions. Harris’s final touchdown was to his twin brother Daron, to make the score 72-0 to end the third quarter.

Chester’s smothering defense was anchored by its defensive captain Noble Thompson. Thompson along with, the entire Clipper front seven battered the under matched Lancers, as most of the starting defense remained in the game until late in the third quarter. The defensive backfield was led by safety Daron Harris who, showed amazing closing speed on Centrals pass attempts, he also had an interception.
