The Chester Clippers from District 1 and the Braves of John Bartram High School from District 12 went head to head at the South Philadelphia Super Site near the stadium complex on Pattison Avenue.  The Clippers prevailed 16-12 after jumping out to a 16-0 lead by scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter.  Appropriately the first score came via an interception return of 79 yards by Tahmir Reese.

The second TD came at the 2:14 when Malachi Langley snagged a 22 yard pass from quarterback Dymiere Stevenson.  Malik Langley  who is the identical twin of Malachi scored both PAT points. The first came by way of a run and the second on a pass from Stevenson.  On the day Stevenson completed 7 of 15 passes for 71 yards.  He was chased all day by the Bartram defense and had no  success at all on his registered 9 rushing attempts finishing with a total of minus 57 yards. The majority of the lost yards came as a result of being sacked in the pocket or caught outside the pocket attempting to run the ball.

Anton Sterling was the most impressive runner of the day for either team scooting 14 times for 64 yards. The end result of the Clippers 34 rushing chances produced just 34 yards.  So if you do the math the Clippers produced just 105 yards of total offense. The Braves outgained the visitors by just 40 yards posting a total offense number of 145.  Quarterback Jaquan Givens passed 7 of 19 for 133 yards and two TD’s.  He ran 9 times for minus 1 yard.  Bartram would accumulate just 12 rushing yards on 22 touches.  It was not a good day if you liked offense. Bartram would make their noise in the fourth quarter. First on a 69 yard pass from Givens to Emiamij Lee. The PAT pass failed so the Braves still needed two scores, trailing 16-6 with 8:25 left in the contest.  Chester never had to worry .

Led by linebackers  Jakai Boegertey  and Aasim Muhammad along with defensive end Devon Bobo the Braves wouldn’t light the scoreboard again until there was just 53 seconds on the clock.  Boegerty along with Muhammad had 8 tackles apiece and each had 3 TFL’s. Muhammad along with Bob0 [ 7 tackles ]  had 2 sacks each.  Some of those sacks were coverage sacks as a result of good defense by Chester’s DB’s  the Langley twins, Rafiqe Hilliard and Resse.

Along with Reese, Darron Miller had 2 interceptions for the men of Delaware County. On his two picks Miller returned one for 35 yards and another for 15 yards.  The return yardage number stood out the most with 5 returns generating 143 yards.   Speaking to the Langley twins after the game both men credit their head coach LaDontay Bell for the Clippers record of 4-0.  Both said “Bell doesn’t say much but is looked at as being a father figure not only to them but the entire Clippers team”.  Of course they both said they are looking forward to their next game but the ultimate goal is to make the playoffs.  So far it looks like they are on the way but have yet to play a contest in the depleted Del-Val League . Chester, as was all the teams in their league, were forced to look for games elsewhere. The Langley duo said that they are “excited about hosting Coolidge High School from Washington, DC on October 12th”.  The mid-October affair will also serve as homecoming.

Notes: Bartram’s defense was paced by Kevin Brookens who made 10 tackles , 8 of the solo variety , 3 TFL’s including a sack. Karim Ferguson 7-6-2-sack, Jibril Pollard 6-5-3, Keionne Hill 6-5-1 also stood out for the Braves.  Safir Watford,  Sincere Scott and Abdul Osholake all had 4 tackles. The later two each had a sack .  Jabril Pollard, Brookens  and Kelonne Hill all had fumble recoveries. Helping out Boegertey, Muhammad and Bobo on defense was Jaheim Golden with 5 tackles including 3 TFL’s and 2 hurries . Other TFL’s for the Clippers came from Shamon Hall and Isaiah Powell-Gates.
