COATESVILLE HANDLES HARRISBURG 37-6

(Harrisburg, PA) The Saturday games opening weekend in Harrisburg have turned into  marquee, appointment matchups.  This year Harrisburg would face another District One foe Coatesville.  The Red Raiders have made it a point to increase it’s exposure to Mid Penn Conference teams due to the post season re-alignment change by the PIAA.  The District One champions now face the District Three Champions in the state semi-final game.  Coatesville sent a very clear message that they will be a team to be reckoned with in 2018 with a resounding 37-6 victory over Harrisburg Saturday afternoon.

Red Raider QB Ricky Ortega was the games offensive star.  Ricky ran for a TD, caught a TD pass and threw for two more.  MLB Nik Thompson paced a stellar Coatesville defensive effort.  Nik had a key sack and ended a key Harrisburg possession with an end zone interception.

Coatesville Head Coach Matt Ortega said “our kids have been preparing for this game for a long time.  We knew were going to have a pretty good team, why not come up here and play one of the best in the Mid Penn.”  Matt also talked about QB Ricky Ortega’s performance ” he is a third year starter, a coach on the field, I knew he would come out here and give his best effort.”

Things got started early as Harrisburg started deep in their own end after a poor opening kick return.  It would cost them.  Dropping back to pass Kane Everson would be sacked in the end zone for a safety.  Coatesville received the free kick and quickly cashed in.  A flea flicker from Dupree Bryant to Dymere Miller made it 9-0 less than two minutes in

The next Red Raider possession was fruitful and was culminated by a Ricky Ortega TD dive.  Coatesville was seemingly in control 16-0 .  During almost the entire first quarter the Red Raider defense was unyielding.  Harrisburg was able to take advantage of a short field after a botched punt with a Kane Everson bulldozing effort as the quarter ended.  16-7 Coatesville.

Neither team had much offensive success in quarter two until shortly before the half.  The Red Raiders mounted a drive just before the half.  Near the goal line Coatesville went deep into the play book for an option pass that standout RB Aaron Young tossed to QB Ricky Ortega.  We went to the half with Coatesville in control 23-6.

The third quarter was all Coatesville.  Harrisburg could not get any momentum on offense at all.  Two TD passes in the quarter by Oretega made no doubt of the games outcome.  One was a 78 yarder to Bryant, the other a strike to Frankie Sherman.

There was no scoring in the fourth as both teams traded possessions.  The final was Coatesville 37 Harrisburg 6.  The Red Raiders move on to face Middletown South from NJ. Harrisburg visits Reading High on the 31st.
