The 2014 high school football season is coming to an end and we have just sixteen teams with hopes of a trip to Hershey and a Pennsylvania State Championship.

The semi-final round features the squads that have survived the long season by finding a way win with goal line stands, hail Mary passes and last quarter rallies. They have played in the heat of late summer and the chill of late fall and it all comes down to these last two critical games.

The last eight years the prognostication record stands at 411-175 while going 47-18 for this season. Dunmore, Wilson West Lawn, St Joseph Prep and Archbishop Wood all won as predicted while Pennsbury’s win over Coatesville accounted for the one missed call.Time to focus on this week’s action.

Pennsbury vs St Joseph Prep @ Northeast High School

The Pennsbury Falcons overcame the undefeated and top seeded Coatesville Red Raiders when their defense rose to the occasion and put up a goal line stand in the last minute of the contest to hold on to a 21-14 victory last Saturday afternoon. The thought here was that the dual run and pass threat of the Red Raiders would prevail over the run only Falcons. However running backs Charles Snorweah 208 yards and Raheem Thompson 106 yards were just too much for the Red Raiders to counter. This Saturday Pennsbury will once again face a dual threat team in the District Twelve Champion St Joseph Prep Hawks. Running back D’Andre Swift ran for 174 yards while QB Jack Clements found receiver Olamide Zaccheaus for 128 yards in an exciting 34-30 win over Parkland. Gotta give it up to Falcons for getting this far but the Prep is just too loaded for a one trick pony.

Archbishop Wood Vs Somerset @ Chambersburg High School

The Archbishop Wood Vikings rolled over District One AAA champion Great Valley 44-7 . QB Anthony Russo passed for 142 yards and Jarret McClenton was all business with 173 yards on the ground as Wood jumped to a 30-0 first quarter lead. The Somerset Eagles have been flying high in post season play with impressive with big wins over Selinsgrove 42-14 and Bethlehem Catholic 30-0. QB Dylan Barns can run and pass which opens the door for talented running back Jake Heiple to hurt opponents on the ground. The Vikings are just too deep to defend in the long run.
