This Friday night brought a little warmer weather aa week of clubs as both teams, the Garnet Valley Jaguars and the Upper Darby Royals, entered week three of the football season in the Central League. However, tonight featured a dominant Garnet Valley offense and defense as they would stay undefeated by winning by a final score of 46-6. The started as a field position battle as both teams would punt the ball a combined six times in the first half. However, GV was leading 20-0 at the end of the first half of play. Then, Garnet Valley was able to put Darby away after three touchdowns in the third quarter.  For Upper Darby, they put up a good fight in the game with their fast paced offense and stingy defensive line. They might have some fundamentals to work on but they showed some flashes tonight. Lets go into a recap of each team’s night . . .

Garnet Valley once again was on fire on both sides of the ball through out the entire game. Shane Reynolds was his usual dominant self tonight as he got three touchdowns in the game. He has accumulated seven touchdown in three games this season, which is very hard to pull off. Also, Kevin McGarrey had two touchdown passes on the night as well. One was too Will Wreznewski for 29 yards and the other was to Matt Marowski for 14. This was also Marowski’s first touchdown of the season. Then on the defensive side of the ball for the Jaguars, they dominate through out the night. They did not allow a score until the middle of the 4th quarter when they were already up 40-0. The defense was able to get two interceptions and force two fumbles as well as get a few sacks on top of that. Overall, a very good night for the Jaguars.

Upper Darby has some things that they could improve on after falling to the Jaguars tonight. On offense, they were not able to generate much for most of the game. However, they did get a 50 yard touchdown run by Meech Taylor towards the end of the game to get themselves on the board for the first time this season. Overall, they need to work on execution as it looked like the Royals had trouble getting lined up in the game. But, they did have nice speed on the outside and have quite a bit of potential there. On the defensive side of the ball, they  slowed Garnet Valley down at times during the first half before the Jaguars pulled away for good. The Royals use speed on defense that allowed them to get in the backfield and to stop runs and passes more quickly. So, if they can execute a little bit better, they could have something there too. Overall, Upper Darby did not have a very good night but have the potential to improve.

Garnet Valley will move to 3-0 on the season and will play their rivals, the Ridley Green Raiders, at 7:00 PM next Friday night at home. Upper Darby will drop to 0-3 on the season after facing arguably the three best teams in the Central League. They will play the Lower Merion Aces at 10:00 AM on Saturday at Lower Merion. Overall, a well fought out game for both teams in this Central League battle. Should be a fun final three games for these teams as they have completed the first half of their football seasons.
