Springfield was the last Central League team to beat Garnet Valley back in 2017. They beat Garnet Valley on homecoming night to win the Central League Title. That 2017 Springfield team would remain the last to beat Garnet Valley in the regular season as the Jaguars took care of business and won by a final score of 49-6. Lets go into a recap of both teams’ nights . . .

Garnet Valley started out red hot on offense once again, scoring on their first three drives of the game. Joey Halloran was all over the place tonight getting 69 yards on four catches with two of them going for touchdowns and Sean Gallagher had one as well. Max Busenkell had three touchdown passes on the night with 99 yards passing. Most of Garnet Valley’s yards came on the ground tonight. Shane Reynolds and Ryan Saunders both had great nights on the ground once again with Saunders getting two touchdown runs and Reynolds getting a 62 yard touchdown run. On defense, it was mostly that same story. Drew Van Horn got an interception on the opening drive of the game and CJ Wood also got one to end the first half. Then, the defensive line was able to generate a lot of pressure in the backfield which prevented a lot of passes from getting downfield. Overall, another great game for Garnet Valley.

Springfield was able to respond very nicely to Garnet Valley’s first touchdown of the game by taking the kickoff after that touchdown to the Garnet Valley 31. They were able to complete a very nice touchdown pass on the drive after that. However, that would be about the only success they had on offense. Springfield were not able to get the big plays that they needed to stay with Garnet Valley. Also, they had a lot of turnovers on offense as well which took away any momentum they had. Though, they were able to get a lot of 5-10 yard gains on screen passes which they had success mostly with through out the game. On defense, they were able to keep up with Garnet Valley for the first quarter and some of the second. Springfield’s defensive line was able to shut down plays very quickly. Eventually though, they did break as by the end of the first half, they allowed 36 points to the Jaguars. Springfield’s defense is quietly good and can shut down another team’s offense very easily if they can make the right decisions.

Garnet Valley will be playing their homecoming game at home against Lower Merion next week at 7:00 PM and have a chance to clinch the Central League Title outright (Garnet Valley has already clinched a share of it with the win over Springfield). Springfield will be playing at Penncrest at 7:00 PM for their regular season finale. Both teams are wrapping up their regular seasons as they battle it out for better seeds in the District One Playoffs. This should be a fun last week of the regular season.
