Garnet Valley, despite having Shane Reynolds knocked out of the game due to injury, kept dominating on the field against Conestoga, winning by a final score of 55-14. After Garnet Valley jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a couple of touchdown runs, Conestoga was able to ternate some offense of their own, getting a long touchdown pass of their own, making the score 14-7.  After that, Garnet Valley scored 18 unanswered points before the Pioneers scored again, keeping them at arms distance the rest of the night. One big play for Stoga was when they returned a kickoff for a touchdown to make it 32-14. However, that would not be enough as Garnet Valley continued to dominate on both sides of the ball. Lets go into a deeper recap of both teams’ nights . . .

Conestoga had some good moments tonight and were able to general some big plays. On offense, they were able to generate a 52 yard touchdown pass from Calvin Shirley to Peter Detwiler after going down 14-0. However that would be the only time they scored on offense. They had a lot of really fast players like Riley and Detwiler. This could bode well for them this season as it did against OJR. On defense, they have some things to work on. They were not able to stop the offense on the ground or in the air. The one nice play they had there was a turnover on downs they generated later in the game as they made some good adjustment. Interestingly, the special teams did a lot for them tonight, where they saw the most success, as they returned one kickoff to about midfield and another for a touchdown. Conestoga may not have had a great night by what the scoreboard says, but they definitely showed some positive signs.

Garnet Valley continued to get a lot of yards via the ground game, but this time, they got a very large  amount of yardage from the air. After Reynolds went down, Garnet Valley started to throw the ball a little more and it worked out great for them. Ndozi Okolo and Sean Gallagher had hands like glue, not dropping a single pass that went their way. One great play was a 35 yard pass where Okolo leaped over his defender and taking it down to the one yard line. Then, Jason Bernard and Ryan Saunders both did a really nice job stepping up. Saunders had one touchdown run while Bernard had two and Ronnie Leraris had a 24 yard touchdown run too. On defense, they had a very good night overall. Van Horn and Brennan both got a sack and the rest of the defensive line was able to generate consistent pressure. Also, the secondary did a nice job in general of not allowing many big plays to happen. This was a game where Garnet Valley had some more penalties than usual, but because they were still able to do really well despite them shows how talented that the Jaguars are.

Conestoga will play at Lower Merion on Saturday at 10:00 AM to look and pick up their second win of the year. Garnet Valley will play at home against Marple Newtown at 7:00 PM to look and continue their win streak. Conestoga is a team that has been getting better and better over the last few years. They could be a team that flies under the radar this year in the Central League. For Garnet Valley, they are potentially one of the best teams in 6A in Pennsylvania. They have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball with could be large as we get deeper into the regular season.
