Norristown quarterback Nick DiNolfi led the Eagles to a 24-6 win over a struggling Cheltenham team that was plagued by mistakes all night. DiNolfi was 5 of 8 for 102 yards in the first half, hitting several big gains to receivers Chris DiNolfi and Julian Arthur. I’m really proud of how Nick played tonight. He made some adjustments on the fly and he managed the game” said Norristown head coach Joe Milligan.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with a 46 yard, 7 play opening drive capped by a 9 yard run by Jahil Warren.

The next Eagle td came after a muffed punt by the Cheltenham player was recovered by Norristown at the Panther 11. DiNolfi called his own number from the one to give the Eagles a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. “I just looked before the game. It’s been 529 days since we last played football. Our guys came out hungry and that’s a part of our style of football” said Milligan.

The teams then traded punts for the rest of the first half until, with just a few minutes to play, the Eagles drove deep into Panther territory. DiNolfi connected on two long passes during the drive, one to Arthur and one to Chris DiNolfi who made a great catch at the Cheltenham three.

The Cheltenham defense tightened and a dump pass from the three missed it’s mark.

The second half started rough as both teams had miscues on their first series of the third quarter, but it was a nice punt return by Arthur that set the Eagles up at the Panther 20. DiNolfi then hit Arthur for a 20 td pass to put Norristown up 18-0.

Cheltenham got it’s best drive of the night, a 45 yard, 7 play drive capped by an 8 yard run from Tyzeem Kinney to pull within two scores, but tonight wasn’t the night for the 2019 5A runners up. DiNolfi sealed the win with a 10 yard run at the 5:31 mark in the fourth quarter.

“We certainly didn’t play like a team that went to Hershey a year ago, but we’ll get this fixed” said Cheltenham head coach Ryan Nase.

Norristown faces Truman next week and Cheltenham will play Penn Wood
