Northampton- In their home opener for 2024, The Konkrete Kids left little doubt as they cruised to a 24-2 victory over the visiting Falcons of Pennsbury from District 1.

Stifled by a barrage of turnovers, Pennsbury could never overcome their mistakes, and Northampton would repeatedly cash in.

The evening started with The Falcons receiving the opening kick and being forced into a quick three-and-out by the Northampton defense. The K-Kids offense didn’t fare much better, as they were forced to punt after only picking up a single first down on their opening possession of the game.

On their ensuing possession, Pennsbury managed a first down on a plunge up the middle by Hex Walker, immediately preceded by a nice run around the outside of the Northampton defense to get the Falcons out from behind the sticks. The Northampton defense put the clamps on the Falcon offense, and they were again forced to punt.

The following drive for Northampton would prove to be a breakthrough for the K-Kids. Quarterback Gavin Taff, who completed 11-of-15 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, found success through the air and on the ground, leading his offense down the field. The drive would be capped off by a 7-yard rush around the left side of the line by Billy Stuhldreher and into the end zone to open the scoring on the night. Stuhldreher rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Following this score, the Pennsbury offense would find some success on the ground, but once again, the Northampton defense would have an answer and force another punt. This punt, however, would prove to be the foreshadowing of the Falcons’ lone points of the night. The punt was downed inside of the Northampton 5 yard-line. After a false start penalty, the ball was moved to the 2-and-a-half-yard line, where Walker Murray and the Falcon defense would come up big and wrestle Taff to the ground in the end-zone for safety on the next play.

The following drive began to see the wheels fall off the Falcons’ offense. After receiving the free kick after the safety, Pennsbury would go on to fumble their next four offensive possessions. The turnovers would lead to another rushing touchdown for Billy Stuhldreher.

A receiving touchdown by Tymir Williams welcomed him back on the field after he suffered a season-ending injury last year. Williams caught four balls for 52 yards and a touchdown.

Aaron Gutkowski’s 28-yard field goal was the final point in the game, bringing the final score to 24-2.

After Northampton capitalized on almost every turnover, they capped the game with a final interception by Northampton’s Zeke Spencer during the last play. After the game, K-Kids head coach John Toman was very complimentary of his team’s conditioning and attributed his team’s success to all the hard work this offseason. Even though the lines for Northampton may have been undersized compared to Pennsbury, their conditioning helped them persevere. Toman also said it was great to see Tymir Williams back on the field and contributing early on, even though they only played him on the offensive side of the ball this evening.

The win puts Northampton at 1-0 on the year as they get back to work to get ready to travel next week to  East Stroudsburg South (1-0), who is fresh off a victory over Abington Heights this evening 33-14. With the loss, Pennsbury drops to 0-1 on the year, and they’ll go back to the drawing board as they prepare to travel to Quakertown (0-1), who is fresh off a loss this evening as well to Southern Lehigh by a score of 31-13.
