For the first time in 13 years, the Rams found themselves on the winning end against North Penn in Suburban One League action Friday night. Sean Leuthe’s 44-yard touchdown catch on the opening drive of the third quarter unleashed a torrent of second half points for Pennridge and spurred them to a 24-point victory.

The first half was dominated by the defenses. Pennridge only moved the ball 65 total yards in the opening two quarters, but thanks to a pair of interceptions by Thomas Ginnetti and Ryan Rowe, they would take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.

North Penn got most of their first half yardage on the final drive before the break. Matthew Bucksar and company moved the ball from their own 24 to the Rams’ 4-yard line, but as time expired, Bucksar was stopped short of the goal line, preventing North Penn from gaining a lead.

Sean Leuthe’s 44-yard touchdown with 7:41 to go in the third capped a nine play scoring drive for Pennridge, giving them a two-score edge. North Penn’s ensuing possession ended following a Will Dougherty sack and a 4th & 8 incompletion.

From their own 41, head coach Kyle Beller’s team took a big gamble, opting for the fake punt. It paid off in a big way, as Mike Ferguson caught the ball and went 43 yards to set his team up. Noah Keating finished off the drive, going in from four yards out to increase the lead to 20-3 with under a minute to play in the third.

North Penn wasn’t done, as Bucksar found Rylei Gray for 32 yards, Bucksar’s longest completion of the evening. Gray took it in six yards out a few plays later to pull the Knights back within 20-10 with 10:38 to go in the game.

Later in the fourth, an incomplete pass on 4th down forced a turnover on downs at the Knights’ 42. Pennridge took it from there, needing just six plays before keating scored from 19 yards out to ice the game at 27-10. After the ensuing kickoff was coughed up, he carried 16 yards for his third score, putting Pennridge up 34-10 with four minutes to play.

The kickoff was again fumbled, the Knights’ fourth turnover of the game, allowing the Rams to run out the clock and defeat North Penn for the first time since 2012.

Pennridge managed only 175 total yards of offense, but a solid pass rush and defensive line play kept Matthew Bucksar in check most of the night. North Penn was held to 84 yards on the ground.

Pennridge improved to 5-0 and is at home again next week to face Abington. North Penn drops to 3-2 with Central Bucks East coming to Lansdale next Friday night.
