Plymouth Whitemarsh Adds Another Win In Dominant Fashion vs Springfield

Plymouth Whitemarsh stormed into Springfield and dominated them from start to finish in a 35-0 win where they left absolutely no doubt who the best team in their division is as well. The 5-1 Colonials were able to take total control of the game and cruise to a sixth win on the year, while the 3-2 Spartans dropped down to .500 on the season with a more than disappointing loss.

Springfield received the ball to start the game and got an early chance to score but they underwhelmed the home fans with a three and out that led to a punt which was hit hard by the wind and only traveled about 20 yards. This gave PW great field position for an offense that really doesn’t have trouble moving the ball anyway. After a Springfield penalty boosted them before they even ran a play, QB Caiden Leszczynski aired it out with a well placed pass and hit WR Marcus Laffredo for a huge gain of 30 yards. Following their chunk play, PW went back to the offense we have known so well throughout the year and ran four times before Nazye Boggs punched in a touchdown from the one to get the game rolling. The ensuing Springfield drive would be no different than their first, gaining just three yards in another three and out before they brought the punt unit on the field. The Spartans tried to use trickery to their advantage and catch the Colonials off guard, but it was blown up by an outstanding jump from the D-line that got to the play and brought the ball back to the 35 yard line. Plymouth would go right back to where they left off when their offense went back out, with all five of their plays being rushes and the final result being a touchdown from six yards out for Nazye Boggs. Picking up his second score before the first quarter had even ended. Springfield’s offense had arguably their best set of downs on their following drive despite it not amounting to much. They were able to gain about 35 yard before the Colonials defense stood strong and stopped them once again.

This game would become very unique to what we’ve seen from the Colonials so far this season in the second quarter. PW pushed a long, eight play drive all the way inside the ten yard line before Leszczynski made a great cut on the inside keeper and hopped over a diving Spartan to punctuate his team into a commanding lead. Plymouth would continue to dominate all sides of the ball with a booming kickoff that ended up only getting out to the Springfield four yard line. The Spartans tried desperately to kick start a scoring drive with a big chunk play but were unable to gain even a single first down, resulting in another punt that didn’t escape their own half of the field. PW exceeded where Springfield couldn’t when they got the ball back, using an Everett Baker 20 yard run and some more smash mouth offense to complete yet another eight play drive that resulted in another Nazye Boggs one yard score. Knowing their opponent was in dire need of life on the offensive side of the ball, the Colonials amped it up on defense and would cause both a fumble and a punt in their next set on the field. Plymouth Whitemarsh also tried their hand at the deep ball game while the half winded down, and although Leszczynski had some great ball placement he was not able to work any magic. Springfield would hit their longest play of the day on the final snap of the half, with WR Miles Goodwin coming down with a jump ball for a gain of 55. Unfortunately for the Spartans, things would not get much better in the second half.

The third quarter treated spectators to plenty of lengthy drives that we aren’t accustomed to seeing at the high school level. PW came out of the gate with an 11-play, field stretching drive that went off the rails when a fumbled snap was jumped on by Springfield for the first real takeaway of the game. Things got chippy on the next drive between the lineman of our two competing teams, but even with the drama Springfield put together a very well strung eight play drive but once again were turned away with a turnover on downs. Plymouth Whitemarsh got hit with deja vu when Boggs fumbled on an outside pitch play which was also recovered by Springfield again. The Spartans drive would carry into the fourth quarter but in the end wouldn’t really make much of a difference as it would be given back to PW anyway.

WR/RB Everett Baker took over the offense for the Colonials in the beginning of the fourth, carrying it three times for a total of 45 yard that climaxed in a nice touchdown run which essentially put the game out of reach for Springfield. The remaining eight minutes of the fourth would be occupied by a 12-play Springfield drive that still did not manage to find the endzone, or any points for that matter. The Spartans were unable to find a good scoring groove at any point in the game and it would definitely lead to a bad overall product on the field.

The Springfield Spartans may have not put the points on the board to make people believe otherwise, but they did not play terribly vs PW. It’s tough to face a team like the Colonials when they’re hot, and this team strung together numerous long, methodical drives where they could have very well put points up. Unfortunately they came up short, and now have to look towards next week where they get to match up against a more similar Upper Moreland team. With their now fourth dominating win in a row, it feels like there may not be a hotter team in the American Conference then the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials. Although it may be an old story, this streak really comes back to the Quakertown loss they suffered in week three. Since that game this team has been a completely different animal and they look well rounded enough to take their conference and more by the time this season is done. Now outscoring opponents 174-34 since week three, PW looks like a legit contender in the SOL and they will have a huge chance to prove it next week when they go on the road to face their rival: Wissahickon. This game could very well decide the conference winner, and there is no reason that PW shouldn’t be favored to win at the moment. With both teams looking for a statement win, next week is going to be full of excitement in division one.
