Springfield Takes Care of Business Blanks Harry S Truman

Levittown: Entering Friday night has the number 8 seed in the District 1 5A playoffs the Springfield Delco Cougars were firmly planted into the post-season. Despite that the Cougars still had lot to play for with a win they would almost certainly guarantee themselves a home playoff game. And that’s exactly what they did overcoming a bus ride that was over an hour long to defeat Harry S Truman 42-0 in a rare week 10 non- league contest.

The Cougars came to Levittown riding a four game winning streak and continued their hot play right from beginning taking the opening kickoff and marching right down the field and getting on the board when Jake Rama connecting with Ryan Johnson for a 15-yard touchdown giving the guest the 6-0 lead. The Tigers responding on their opening drive moving the ball pretty well against the Cougar defense before shooting themselves in the foot with penalties.

Rama would use his legs to extend the Cougars lead to 13 with his one yard sneak. Tyler Gougler extended the Cougars lead to 21-0 with his 5 yard touchdown run.
Cougars would take advantage of a Tigers fumble on the opening drive of the second half and extend their lead to 28-0 with a Mike O`Donnell 15 yard touchdown run. The Cougars recoverer the ensuing kick off and would put the mercy rule into play with a Bryan Minnott one yard touchdown run. Mike Turner capped off the scoring with 15-yard touchdown run.

With the win the Cougars improve to 7-3 and capture the 7th seed in the District 1 playoffs and will host the 10th seed Phoenixville Phantoms. It will mark the Cougars first home playoff game in the new Cougars stadium that opened during the 2020 Covid shorten season. The Tigers end a difficult season which saw them lose head coach Ben Johnson mid season with a record of 2-8
