One Thousand Three Hundred and Five Yards. Yes that was the total number of combined all purpose yards by both teams. Near the end of the third quarter Head Official Lee Page yelled over to me ; ” How many miles have I run so far ? Well on my phone app pedometer yours truly had went up and down the sidelines 2.05 miles. The final number was 2.74. The best patrolman on the evening was Central Dauphin’s Timmy Smith . Smith ran 22 times for 263 yards and 3 TD’s. Just for fun he snagged a 10 yard TD pass as the Rams outslugged the Whippets 65-44. The win will put the Rams into the State 6 A final next Saturday in Hershey , Pa against St. Joe Prep who prevailed in overtime 31-24 over Pittsburgh Central Catholic.
The end of the first quarter score looked rather normal with Downingtown West leading 7-3. That was where the normalcy stopped. Central Dauphin would score 20 points in the second quarter, 28 in the third and 14 in the fourth . The Whippets final three quarters were 7, 16 and 14. Central Dauphin punted just once while DW punted twice. The Rams scored on every possession after their punt . Two scores came after interceptions by Paul Clark and Nyeem Sims and were on two consecutive Downingtown West possessions . The two picks gave CD short fields to navigate and from that point on it was tough for the Whippets to play catch up. The end result’s of the hijacked passes was a 3 yard TD run by Marques Holton and a 10 yard burst by Smith .

The scores came just 2 minutes and 18 seconds apart early in the third quarter giving the Rams a 37-14 lead . The Whippets cut the lead to 37-22 when Tariq Lewis ran 6 yards to pay turf. Lewis followed with the conversion run giving his squad some hope by making it just a two score game. Smith answered right back with a 24 yard jaunt for the Rams but less than a minute later Sean Pelkisson busted 15 yards to cut the deficit to 44-30 after the 2 point conversion. The same scenario took place again when both teams scored on their next possessions as the scoreboard read 51-37 with 10:19 remaining in the fourth quarter. That was as close as the Whippets would come as fatigue seemed to set in for the men from District One.

The Rams scored the next two times they had the ball and they came via a 36 yard run by Smith and a 56 yard run by Elijah Vargas. West would close out the scoring when Howard connected with Lewis on a 10 yard toss. Howard passed 22-30-268-3TD’s. Julian Williams caught 9 for 129-TD. Lewis numbered 7-76-TD. With Smith leading the way on the ground the Rams ran the ball 48 times for 485 yards and a 10.1 average yards per carry. Smith said ” Every time I would touch the ball I knew there would be a hole and I just found it”. He continued to say; The offensive line works very heard on their technique but most importantly the time they spend in the weight room makes them feel they can pancake anyone in front of them at any time” .
The Rams line consist of center Nathaniel Mosey, guards Jacob Hicks and Bryce Thomas and tackles Blaise Heshler and Chad Layton. Along with Smith, Vargas would rush 7-119- 2 TD’s. Dauphin QB Max Mosey passed 5-10-93-TD he also rushed 11- 45. Nick Chimenti snagged the most from Mosey with 4-83. The Rams Malachi Bowman returned a kickoff 89 yards for a TD.
