Hello and welcome to the 2024 season of What’s Happening in District I & XII! Join me every week has we look at what happened and look forward to what will happen in Districts I & XII.
New Chest-Mont Alignment: The Chest-Mont league this season will premiere three divisions as opposed to the two that it has been. Each Division will crown its own champion and each team will play other schools in their respectful division plus at one crossover game with teams from one of the other divisions. The new divisions are
North: Bishop Shannahan, Coatesville, Downingtown East, Downingtown West
Central: Great Valley, West Chester East, West Chester Rustin, and West Chester Henderson
South: Avon Grove, Kennett, Oxford, Unionville, Sun Valley
New Philadelphia Catholic League Alignment: The 2024 Season also changes the Philadelphia Catholic League. Cardinal O’Hara and Bonner-Prendie move up the Red Division (Big Schools) despite being 4A while Archbishop Wood drops to the Blue Division. The divisions are now as follows
Red Division: St Joseph’s Prep, LaSalle, Father Judge, Roman Catholic, Cardinal O’Hara, and Bonner-Prendie
Blue Division: Archbishop Carroll, Archbishop Ryan, Archbishop Wood, Conwell-Egan, Lansdale Catholic, Neumann-Goretti, West Catholic.
Chichester to Debut New Turf Field: The Chichester Eagles Home Opener is set for next Friday when the Chichester Eagles host the Conwell Egan Eagles. It will mark the first football game played on Apichella Memorial Stadium’s new turf which was finished this offseason.
Helping Nemours Children’s Hospital: Last week the Garnet Valley Jaguars took time away from heat acclimatization to hold their 3rd annual Toy to benefit Nemours Children’s Hospital. Together the Jaguars and the Chester Chapter of the PIAA Football Officials gathered over 2,000 toys which Coach Eric Van Wyk and players dropped off at the hospital located in Wilmington De,
Familiar Face Back at LaSalle: This season a new head coach is patrolling the sidelines for LaSalle. But it’s no stranger to the Explorer program. In January Brett Gordon was named head coach. Gordon is a member of the Class of 1998. He led the Explorers to back-to-back Philadelphia Catholic League Championships in 1995 and 1996. In his Explorer career, he threw for 6,837 yards before going on to star at Villanova. Gordon later returned to his alma mater as an assistant from 2005-2014 where he worked under two head coaches including his dad Drew. Gordon was the offensive coordinator for 6 PCL championship teams and the 2009 PIAA State Champions.
New Head Coaches: In addition to Gordon these are the new head coaches in Districts I &XII and Inter AC: Bruce Fleming (Abington), Jami Sands (Boyertown) Scott Gee (Conestoga) Brandon Garrett (Council Rock North), Tom Kline(Downingtown West), Mario Dattillo (Harriton), Pat Fisher (Interboro), Eric Raneri (Methacton), Ian Bell (New Hope Solebury) George Dorsey (Dobbins), Richard Constance (Mastbaum) Nick Lincoln (Northeast)
