During his career with Downingtown West, Will Howard has thrown for over 2,700 yards and 21 td’s. The 6-4, 215 pount QB has been a hot commodity all spring and his offer sheet is impressive. Harvard, Temple, Maryland, Cincinnati and more have asked for his services, but it was a visit to Kansas State that really got him excited. Howard had seen enough, and yesterday he ended his recruitment by committing to the Wildcats. He made his announcement via twitter:
We caught up with Will and asked him about the decision to commit to Kansas St.
PFN: How long have you played football?
Will: I’ve played football for as long as I can remember. Think I started playing flag at 6 or 7.
PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the KSU?
Will: I took an official visit to KSU and I absolutely loved it. The coaches, the fans, the town, and the team were all amazing. It is a family oriented culture and I felt like I fit in very well there. Even though it was far away, I felt at home.
PFN: Why commit early?
Will: I wanted to commit now because I took a few visits after the official and I just knew K State was the one. I know the QB recruiting process moves faster than other positions and I did not want to see the K State spot go away, so I thought if I love it, there’s really no point in waiting.
PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Kansas ST, who recruited you?
Will: I would say Coach Riley (OL), Coach Klein (QB), Coach Mess (OC), and Coach Klieman (Head) all recruited me and reached out to me a similar amount. They reached out to me often during the process, but they didn’t suffocate me with texts and calls. They would just check in every week or so to see how I was doing. I also talked with QB Skylar Thompson because he was my host on my official. He’s a great guy and I’m really excited to get the chance to work with him.
PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
Will: They are getting a guy who is not afraid of competition, and who is prepared to work his butt off every single day to achieve his goals. I am determined to bring a Big 12 championship to Manhattan, and I want to be the best teammate and the hardest worker when I’m out there.
PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
Will: It’s a crazy process and it was all over the place. In the beginning, I never would have expected to be committing to Kansas State, I believe that God has a plan and I am so thankful that it led me to Manhattan, Kansas.
PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
Will: I am looking into business and engineering.
PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Wildcat program?
Will:I would have to say the atmosphere around the football program. The fans are so passionate about the team. I can’t wait to be in the Bill playing in front of thousands of screaming fans who wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. I can’t wait to bring them a Big 12 championship.
PFN: Tell everyone out there in Wildcat land something they’d never know about you until you told them:
Will: Something that wildcat nation probably doesn’t know about me is that I have a peanut allergy.
PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
Will: My parents for sure. They’ve helped me so much and been so supportive all of my life.
PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
Will: Haha that’s a hard one. I guess it was just a tough decision and I know it’s pretty far away, but it’s home and I couldn’t be more excited and confident in my decision.
