WEST CHESTER:  Last week while most of the state was playing their season opening games the West Chester Rustin Golden Knights has is tradition under Head Coach Mike St. Clair finished up an extra week of two-a-days and their second scrimmage.

On Friday night, the Golden Knights finally got to kick off their season hosting their cross-town rivals the West Chester Henderson Warriors. On the strength of a 21-point first quarter the Golden Knights cruised on their way to the Chest-Mont League American Division victory taking down the Warriors 47-0.

“We elected to take two scrimmages this year like we also do which gives us an extra week of two days” Golden Knights Head Coach Mike St. Clair said adding “I think it helps us prepare for the season little better and not rush things.”

Now while his coach likes the benefit of having the extra week to prepare for the season running back Daimon Jacobs found a little bit difficult. He found himself after their scrimmage watching the other game. “I was going crazy seeing all the articles and watching the (West Chester) East game. I wanted to play so bad.”

Once it was gametime and Jacobs was able to get his season started he wasted no time in finding the endzone as on the game’s opening kickoff, he raced 86-yards for the seasons opening points.

“It felt really great that’s what we were hoping for to get a big start of special teams and just open the game up.” Jacobs said adding “That’s what he did it was a great momentum shift and it help us the rest of the game.

After forcing the Warriors to a three-and- out on their opening possession the Golden Knights offensive line consisting of tackles Steven Bernard, Brock Cummings, Guards Jaysin Huynh, Jake Law and Center Noah Kitabjian took over and ran the ball down the Warriors throat 51-yards on four plays including a 46-yard run by Jacobs on his second touch of the season that put the Golden Knights at the Warrior 3. Two plays later QB David McClain powered his way in from two yards out.

On their next series the Golden Knights marched 52-yards on eight plays extending their lead to 21-0 when Jacobs found the endzone for the second time on the day this time from two yards out.

On their first play of the second quarter McClain connected with Nelson Murray who raced 70-yards putting the Golden Knights up 28-0 heading into the locker room at halftime.

In total the Golden Knights racked up 318 yards rushing on 38 carries and had 389 yards of total offense. Jacobs finished with 100 yards on 10 carries.

“My offensive line was great! I give all credit to them, big holes, they were pushing, physical they were all that.” Jacobs said of his offensive line.

St. Clair echoed those sentiments of his line saying, “The offensive line did a really great job against a physical defensive line.”

Law also offered praise for his offensive saying, “Offensive line played physical, running backs full backs hit hard run fast that’s how offense works.”

Law also offered praise for Jacobs saying “He’s shifty, he runs the holes we have they aren’t always that big but he finds away to get through them.

Jacobs would add a third score in the third quarter from 5-yards out making it 34-0 after three quarters of play.

Chase Hatton and Joseph Magolon added touchdowns from 14 and 27-yards out respectively to cap the scoring.

The Golden Knights defense was just as Impressive has their offense limiting the Warriors offense to a mere 28 yards of total offense.

Next week the Golden Knights will look to sweep their crosstown rivals when the host the West Chester East Vikings at 7 pm.

“It’s a big rivalry, I hangout with Henderson and East kids.” Law said on playing their crosstown rivals. Adding that they all want to win.

The Warriors will look to give their first-year head coach Bob Brice his first win at Henderson when they host Kennett Friday night at 7pm.
