Eisenhower Knights
Head Coach – Jim Penley
2022 Season – 11-1
Key Players Lost – Benji Bauer (2067 rushing yards, 24 TD), (76 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 INT), Keegan Eckstrom (384 rushing yards),
Key Players Returning – Shawn Pascuzzi (1014 passing yards, 8 TD), (414 rushing yards, 8 TD), (32 tackles, 5 INT) – Tucker Lindell (598 rushing yards, 7 TD), (82 tackles), Kris Bunk (28 tackles, 5 sacks).
What to Expect – Eisenhower loses a 2000-yard back in Benji Bauer, among other starters – but with talented players like Tucker Lindell and Shawn Pascuzzi returning, the Knights shouldn’t have an issue contending for a District X crown.
Iroquois Braves
Head Coach – Manny Johnson
2022 Season – 0-10
Key Players Lost – Michael Hoopsick, Andres Gonzalez, Sean Divins, entire line
Key Players Returning – Aidan Wodarski-Farley, Anthony Cimino, Derek Vactor, Anthony Theiss, Sam Kightlingerand Christian Krysiak
What to Expect – The only place is up for the Braves, who finished the 2022 season at 0-10, scoring only 61 points. I’d expect Iroquois to be more competitive in 2023.
Mercyhurst Prep Lakers
Head Coach – Jeff Root
2022 Season – 7-5
Key Players Lost – David Baham (1889 passing yards), (548 rushing yards, 29 total TDs), Thomas Langer (101 tackles, 4 INT)
Key Players Returning – Sean Sokolowski (97 tackles, 3 sacks), Sky Liu (72 tackles, 3 sacks), Jeremy Ganska (71 tackles, 1 sack, 2 Int), (641 rushing yards, 7 TD), Stephen Grayson (433 receiving yards), (68 tackles, 3 Int), Ja’son Ellman (846 receiving yards, 11 TD).
What to Expect – Mercyhurst Prep enters 2023 with a lot of talent back and will look to compete for a District X title. However, the Lakers must replace quarterback David Baham who threw for nearly 2000 yards and accounted for 29 total touchdowns.
Northwestern Wildcats
Head Coach – Bill Henwood
2022 Season – 6-5
Key Players Lost – Ben Campbell (763 rushing yards, 4 TD), Logan Stagl (514 receiving yards, 6 TD), (100 tackles), Landon Wayne (472 receiving yards, 6 TD), (55 tackles, 1 Int),
Key Players Returning – Lloyd Fountain (1547 passing yards), (280 rushing yards, 29 total touchdowns), Kolton Sutter (389 receiving yards, 7 TDs), (25 tackles, 7 Int)
What to Expect – Northwestern will be led by senior quarterback Llyod Fountain and first-year coach Bill Henwood. The Wildcats will look to return to the playoffs following a 6-5 season in 2022.
Seneca Bobcats
Head Coach – Jack Corey
2022 Season – 9-3
Key Players Lost – Ryan Miller (2474 rushing yards, 33 TDs), (125 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 Int), Collin Libra (104 tackles, 6 sacks, 1 Int), (568 receiving yards, 10 TD), Dylan Ellenberger (48 tackles, 2 sacks)
Key Players Returning – Nick Smith (49 tackles), Nolan Seabury (34 tackles, 3 Int), (1059 passing yards), (965 rushing yards, 30 total touchdowns)
What to Expect – Nolan Seabury will once again lead the Bobcats’ offense and is poised for another big season. However, head coach Jack Corey will have to replace tailback Ryan Miller who rushed for 2474 yards and 33 touchdowns last season.
Union City Bears
Head Coach – Mike Wydro
2022 Season – 207
Key Players Lost – Clay Thomas (803 yards rushing), (126 yards passing, 6 total touchdowns), (50 tackles, 2.5 sacks), Jesse Kightlinger (56 tackles, 5 sacks)
Key Players Returning – Skylar Olmstead (510 rushing yards), (38 tackles), Owen Kerns (63 tackles), (271 rushing yards)
What to Expect – Union City will look to improve from their 2-7 season in 2022. Skylar Olmstead and Owen Kerns will lead their rushing attack.
