Coach says: “Blake is a returning 1st Team All-Region player at All-Purpose back and a 2nd Team All-Region DB. He had 11 receiving TDs last season and a KO return for a TD. Blake is the fastest player on our team and one of the fastest in our region. We expect big things out of Blake for the 2025 season.
Let’s get to know Blake!
Why do you play football?
it’s always been a constant in my life, it’s made me most of who i am as a person and as an athlete
Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?
Of all time my favorite player is definitely OBJ, i would always watch his highlight videos when i was younger and he’s the reason i play wr to this day because i simply wanted to be like him, and who didn’t want to be like Odell during the 2010’s he inspired a generation.
Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:
When we played fort Leboeuf in the first round of the playoffs and our kicker Zach Turben nailed a 37 yard field goal to take the lead in the final seconds, it stands as my favorite because in the moment it felt like a culmination of all the hard work and adversity we as a team had to face for years and have that all come together in one major moment was astounding to say the least and as a team truly gave everything we had until the very end.
What was your toughest game in 2024 season?
The last game of the season against Oil City, we were up multiple scores late in the fourth and they just turned on another gear and tied it up late, most teams would’ve just given up then and there thinking they weren’t meant to win this one, but not Corry, a common theme in Corry is handling adversity time and time again, and this was no different Nolan Carey truly showed his true potential as a leader and helped march down the field to take the lead back late in the fourth, and our defense really became a true unit on the last drive only giving up a few yards to force a turnover on downs to give our offense the ball so they could just kneel out the clock. The game against Oil City was the toughest because with each score of them getting closer and closer mentally should’ve taken us out, but we fought for every last yard until we were victorious
What are your goals for this coming season?
My goals coming into this season are to be a leader of my team and to lead by example, i want to be someone that my teammates can trust and depend on for any moment, on the personal side of things, i want to lead my district in touchdown receptions and to not allow any touchdowns defensively, last year i allowed one, this year i was to make it none
Who is the best player you ever lined up against?
The most difficult player is honestly a tie between two, Jacob Zeitz for General Mclane was one of the states best wide receivers and was averaging over 100 yards a game at the time, i covered him every snap but a few, i held him to zero catches on the game, the other toughest player I have ever played against was Jadon Phillips of Hickory, going in i knew he was the best overall athlete I have ever seen, he was fast, good hands and even better route running, he kept me on my toes all game but he was even better as a person, i talked to him after the game and he was a dog out on the field and a great person off.
What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?
As a lifelong Giants fan i can’t really say they have had the best success in recent years and i have never watched them win a playoff game ever, so when they played the vikings in the wildcard round of the playoffs i made sure to not miss it for the world, i remember watching that clock wind down and seeing them win was such a great feeling because it was the first time i have ever seen them win a playoff game
What do you consider your best characteristic?
I pride myself in being very coachable, whatever my coach wants of me i give to him all my effort and wherever he puts me on the field i will always make myself the best player possible, and i strive to make an impact wherever that may be
Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community
coming from a small town it shows that the connections between players goes beyond sports, we’ve all grown up together and have made friends that have lasted years, and that also shows with the parents, these people have been to every game to support there kids and also support each others children as well, football is a vessel to branch out from your norms and standards, it brings many people together to experience life long memories
Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?
given my size, i can say playing in the NFL is definitely out the window, when i was young it was all i wanted, now i know that is not very likely to happen, i’ve always wanted to sit in the green room with all my closest friends and family and get that call that i’ve been drafted.
Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?
I make sure to model who i portray myself as on the field to be similar to Larry Fitzgerald, he got out on the field and just showed up everyone he came across and did it while also being a leader to his peers, he showed respect to every one of his teammates, refs and coaches as well as fans he met.
What is your favorite practice drill? What is your least favorite practice drill?
my favorite drill we do is simply just route and catching drills, it gives me a chance to really see what i need to improve on in my game offensively, my least favorite drill we do is without a doubt the mirror drill for corners, you line up across someone face to face and they shuffle side to side randomly trying to juke you out, it is a major leg burner, it definitely helps you come game day, but i wouldn’t mind doing without it
Do you enjoy watching other teams in your school compete?
i love going to other games in my school, i love helping lead the student section and not to brag but i’m our schools orange man, which is kind of our volleyball teams super fan that just acts wild during the games
Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?
in my family i would without a doubt say my uncle justin, he knows all my stats by heart and makes it a mission to make as many of my games as possible, he always calls me asking about my next game and asking me all sorts of questions about any game i recently played
When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and WHY?
a lot of my time goes into sports, i only have one month out of the year that i’m not in season because i do winter track workouts, it’s cliche but i love hanging out with my friends, our group never has a dull moment and i’ve made so many memories with them.
What is your favorite play to run?
i love any play that i run a corner or deep down field, everyone loves a big chunk play and whenever i can be the guy to help us flip the field or even get a big play score is always accepted by me. Also just a simple screen is great, i love being able to make something out of nothing and being able to test my skills with making people miss and reading blocks just feels so nice
what is your favorite pregame ritual?
definitely simply running mock routes with our quarterbacks, last year we had two very talented guys with Nolan Carey and Lucas Baker, so going out without a crowd or anything else to make any distractions just helps clear the mind and focus on the game
Music of choice:
i like to be focused on my game, so any music that really helps you get in the zone really helps like ken karson, lil wayne, Drake and N.E.R.D are must haves.
Best place in your town to eat after a game? Why?
in a small town with very few choices of restaurants and a lot of choices for fast food i would have to say McDonald ONLY because after a lot of volleyball and basketball games the student section goes straight there wherever we are even if it’s multiple towns away, it is definitely a mass tradition for some reason
Best Pizza topping?
underrated topping is olives, now the masses might think differently but it is a very nice and subtle topping to add and it compliments the pizza very well
What is your favorite vacation destination?
for the past few years me and my mom go to NYC around christmas and i love seeing the snow in a big city and being able to see all the festivities around are really cool
If you could attend any sports event for free what would it be?
i have been an Aurburn Tigers fan my whole life and with that comes the yearly Iron Bowl game and i have always wanted to sit in the stands in Jordan-Hare stadium and take in the moment. World Dart championship is a close second.
