The Ramblers overcame a slow start and two turnovers using blazing speed and a few forced turnovers of their own to trounce Hollidaysburg Saturday night at Mansion Park. Suhtaun Lewis piled up 221 yards and ran for five touchdowns to help lead Cathedral Prep to a 63-35 drubbing of the Tigers. “We can’t turn the ball over to a well coached team like them. They took advantage of them early and kept the momentum on their side” said Prep head coach Mike Krahe of the Ramblers slow start. “We try to teach our kids to take advantage when we get the turnovers and we can’t spot a team like that 14 points at the beginning of the game.

Right after the opening kickoff the Tigers got a break when, on the first play the ball hit the ground and Hollidaysburg recovered. After a 10 yard loss, the Ramblers had two offsides before quarterback Maddox Bainey hit Brady Steiner from 18 yards out to put the Tigers up 7-0. On the ensuing drive, the Ramblers once again turned the ball over. This time the defense held and Prep scored on a 43 yard run by Corey Allen to tie the game at 7.

Hollidaysburg fought right back. Josh Banks returned the kick to the Prep 26. from there it took several plays and a pass interference call in the endzone to move the ball, then Bainey hit Jay Albarano for a two yard td pass to put Hollidaysburg up 14-7.

Prep then went on a 12 play, 53 yard drive capped by a 1 yard td run by Lewis to tie the game at 14 with 2:04 left in the first quarter. It was all Ramblers from there. “We got five guys who were blocking their tails of and the other part was our wideouts did a great job of blocking out in space” said Krahe of the Prep run game. The Ramblers forced a punt, then went on an 80 yard drive scoring on a 19 yard td run by Dajoure Hollingsworth. On the ensuing kick, the ball hit a Tiger player and Prep recovered at the Tiger 45. One play later Lewis got his third td of the night, a 44 yard td run and the Ramblers took a 27-14 lead (the point after kick missed).

Hollidaysburg marched right back with a nice drive of their own. Bainey hit Gavin Bell for a 33 yard gain, then he found Bell again for 14 yards before tossing a 16 yard td pass to Steiner to pull within 27-21 with 6:02 left in the first half.

After that, it was all Ramblers. Hollingsworth scored on a 17 yard run, then after forcing a punt Lewis got his third td of the night, a 28 yard td run with 1:11 left in the first half. “They have great team speed. They’re well coached. We had some things that we did really well, then they would break one on us. It’s hard to keep them down that long” said Tiger’s head coach Homer Delattre.

Holding a 34-14 lead at the break Prep had all the momentum. Hollidaysburg then made their first big mistake of the night. Bainey threw an interception to Daniel Oblich and he returned it to the Tiger 15. Luke Costello hit Corey Allen for a 13 yard score to make it 48-21 with 10:33 left in the third. On their next drive, Bainey went long and it was picked off by the Ramblers at their 18. Costello found Allen for a 37 yard gain, then 2 plays later Lewis took off again for a 39 yard td run. Prep converted the 2 point play to start the running clock.

Bainey hit RJ Roberts for a td late in the third quarter for the final Prep score. Hollidaysburg tacked on two more scores, a 12 yard td by Steiner and a 1 yard td pass from Bainey to Banks.

“First and foremost I wanna thank my line. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t do what I do” said Lewis.

Prep now has a bye and awaits the winner of the Peters Twp./Pine-Richland game.
