District X Playoff Preview

Playoff time has come in District 10 – let us take a look at the matchups.

Cambridge Springs (7-3) vs. Mercer (6-4)

About the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils – Schedule:

Cambridge Springs is riding a three-game winning streak into the playoffs and will look to beat Mercer for the second time in three weeks. Morgan ApPlebee has passed for 821 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while rushing for 106 yards and five scores. Van Jones has also rushed for five touchdowns and 606 yards. The Blue Devils are led on defense by Josh and Preston Gorton, who each have 85 tackles. Tristen Mazzadra has 8.5 sacks.

About the Mercer Mustangs – Schedule:

Mercer finished the season at 6-4 and will look to get their revenge. The Blue Devils beat them 32-22 on October 21st. Daemyin Mattocks has rushed for 678 yards and 15 touchdowns. Nate Haines has thrown for 182 yards and a touchdown while adding 190 yards on the ground and five touchdowns.

Eisenhower (10-0)

About the Eisenhower Knights – Schedule:

Eisenhower completed a perfect 10-0 regular season and has gotten a first-round playoff bye to play the winner of Cambridge Springs and Mercer. The Knights will look to avenge a 27-0 loss to Reynolds in the District 10 title game last season. Benji Bauer leads the Knights’ offense with 1751 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. Quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi has thrown for 994 yards and eight touchdowns with one interception while rushing for 310 yards and eight scores.


Lakeview (6-4) vs. Maplewood (4-6)

About the Lakeview Sailors – Schedule:

Lakeview completed their first winning season since 2015 and looks to win their first playoff game since 2013, when they won their lone District 10 championship. Mitchell Tingley has rushed for 1217 yards and eight touchdowns and has 107 tackles on defense to lead the Sailors. Danick Hinkson has chipped in with 388 yards and seven touchdowns. Quarterback Cameron Pence has thrown for 636 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 305 yards and nine touchdowns.

About the Maplewood Tigers – Schedule:

Maplewood comes into the playoffs at 4-6, and the Tigers will look to rebound from a 24-7 loss to the Sailors on September 16th. Ben Giliberto leads the Tigers with 1673 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns. A.J. Proper has thrown for 305 yards and five touchdowns with 14 interceptions. Elliot Beuchat has 97 tackles on defense.

Reynolds (9-1)

About the Reynolds Raiders – Schedule:

Reynolds will look for their third-straight District 10 title as they enter the playoffs with an impressive 9-1 record and is ranked fourth in Class A. Jalen Wagner has rushed for 2275 yards and 32 touchdowns in nine games. Brayden McCloskey has thrown for 1244 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while rushing for 311 yards and seven scores. Hayden McLaughlin has caught 16 passes for 685 yards and eight touchdowns. The Raiders await the winner of Lakeview and Maplewood.


2A

Seneca (8-2) vs. Northwestern (6-4)

About the Seneca Bobcats – Schedule:

Seneca finished the season at an impressive 8-2 record following a stretch from 2018-2021, where the program went 2-32. Ryan Miller rushed for 2099 yards and 28 touchdowns, while Nolan Seaberry has passed for 1001 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 795 yards and 15 scores.

About the Northwestern Wildcats – Schedule:

Northwestern will look to get their revenge on the Bobcats from two weeks ago when the Wildcats dropped a 34-26 decision on October 21st. Lloyd Fountain has passed for 1547 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while rushing for 280 yards and ten scores. Ben Campbell has a team-high 763 yards and four touchdowns. Logan Stagl and Landon Wayne have 514 and 472 yards receiving, respectively, each with six touchdowns.

Farrell (8-1)

About the Farrell Steelers – Schedule:

Farrell has, far and away, been the most dominant team in Region 3, winning the region easily. The Steelers have stood atop the PFN Class AA rankings all season long, and for a good reason. Brandon Chambers has rushed for 775 yards and seven touchdowns, while Kylon Wilson has added 518 yards on the ground with 16 touchdowns while catching 42 passes for 873 yards and seven more scores. Quarterback Kabron Smith has passed for 1684 yards, 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions while running for 210 yards and four scores. Lamont Samuels has chipped in with 24 catches for 413 yards and six touchdowns. Chambers and Wilson have also combined for four return touchdowns this season on special teams. Farrell will get a first-round bye and play the winner of Northwestern and Seneca.


Mercyhurst Prep (6-4) vs. Wilmington (3-6)

About the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers – Schedule:

Mercyhurst Prep comes into the postseason on a three-game winning streak where they have outscored opponents 160-0. The Lakers average 30 points a game for the season. David Bahm has thrown 1667 yards, 21 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Bahm also leads the team in rushing with 469 yards and six scores. Jeremy Ganska has also rushed for six touchdowns and rushed for 463 yards. Ja’son Ellman has 48 receptions for 809 yards and 11 touchdowns.

About the Wilmington Greyhounds – Schedule:

Wilmington comes into the playoffs on a five-game losing streak, but don’t let their 3-6 record fool you. The Greyhounds come out of the highly competitive Region 3. Ben Miller has rushed for 520 yards and seven touchdowns, and Tyler Mikulin chipped in with 409 yards and three scores. Tuff McConahy has thrown for 609 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Sharpsville Blue Devils – Schedule:

Sharpsville enters the Class AA playoffs as the second seed and will receive a first-round bye playing either Wilmington or Mercyhurst Prep. The Blue Devils are in the second season with their co-op with West Middlesex and are led by quarterback Caullin Summers who has thrown for 2047 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also leads the ground game with 741 rushing yards and ten scores. Garen Levis leads the receiving core with 1045 yards and six touchdowns. Christian Snyder has 133 tackles on defense.


3A

Fort LeBoeuf (7-3) vs. Sharon (5-4)

About the Fort LeBoeuf Bison – Schedule:

Fort LeBoeuf enters the postseason with a 7-3 record. The Bison are coming off a 35-28 loss to Sharpsville in Week 10. Fort LeBoeuf’s other two losses came against 9-1 General McLane 18-7 in Week 2 and a 41-12 loss to Ohio power St. Clairsville who is 9-2 on the season and have advanced to the second round of Ohio playoffs. The Bison have been soild defensively all season long, giving up only an average of 17.8 points a game. The defense is led by Aiden Lesik and Jace Wallace, who have 73 and 66 tackles, respectively. Quarterbacks Isaac McGuire and Conner McChesney have combined to throw for 504 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. The ground game paves the way for Fort LeBoeuf’s offense as Justin Leuschen has rushed for 1301 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.

About the Sharon Tigers – Schedule:

Sharon has endured an up-and-down season, but following a bye week and a 47-6 route of Greenville in Week 9, the Tigers may be peaking at the right time. The Tigers are led offensively by quarterback Mikey Rodriques who has passed for 798 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 591 yards and 13 scores. Jayveerh White leads the Tigers’ ground game with 1098 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Bryson Roberson leads the team with 71 tackles, while Cortez Nixon has four sacks.


General McLane (9-1) vs. Hickory (4-5)

About the General McLane Lancers – Schedule:

Things did not start the way first-year head coach Marshall McCormick wanted with a 37-20 loss to Slippery Rock in Week 1. Since then, the Lancers have run the table and won Region 4. The Lancers are giving up only 15.4 points per game. One interesting stat is that they have 18 interceptions on defense while throwing only one on offense. Jace Walls leads the team with five, while Jacob Zietz and Skyler Kyanvash each have four. Landon Laskey has seven sacks. General McLane is led offensively by quarterback Dylan Sheeder who has passed for 854 yards and 12 touchdowns with no interceptions. He also leads the Lancers in rushing with 901 yards and nine scores.

About the Hickory Hornets – Schedule:

After starting the season 2-0, Hickory lost four straight games but bounced back with wins over Grove City and Greenville. The Hornets dropped a 28-21 decision to Sharpsville in Week 9 to close the regular season. Hickory is led offensively by Logan Woods, who has passed for 1322 yards with 11 touchdowns and ten interceptions. Keenan Scullin has caught 36 passes for 482 yards and three touchdowns. Sean Kennedy leads the Hornet’s ground game with 277 yards and five touchdowns. Ty Holland leads the team with 87 tackles, and Kennedy with 86. Daymar Trawick has 4.5 sacks.


Oil City (7-2) vs. Slippery Rock (5-4) –

About the Oil City Oilers – Schedule:

You can’t talk about Oil City without mentioning Ethen Knox. Knox has reached several milestones already in his young career. The junior running back has rushed for 3352 yards and 37 touchdowns with an average of 372 yards rushing per game and has added six interceptions on defense. Oil City has thrown only 29 passes in their nine games. Dane Ley has thrown for 142 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Defensively, the Oilers are led by Kevin Pearsall, who has 70 tackles and eight sacks, and Brayden Mcfetridge leads the team with 11 sacks.

About the Slippery Rock Rockets – Schedule:

Slippery Rock will look to avenge last season’s loss in the District X title game and enter the postseason with a 5-4 record following a 3-0 start. The Rockets are led offensively by quarterback William Mokel, who has passed for 1520 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions. He has also rushed for 265 yards and three scores. Maddox Allen leads the team with 596 yards and five touchdowns. John Sabo leads Slippery Rock’s receiving core with 32 catches for 491 yards and eight touchdowns. Brett Galcik leads the team defensively with 67 tackles and three sacks.


Grove City (6-3) vs. Fairview (5-5)

About the Grove City Eagles – Schedule:

Grove City enters the postseason looking to defend their 3A crown from last year. The Eagles turned a 1-2 start into another soild season at 6-3. Two of the losses in the first three weeks came to Avonworth, who is ranked sixth in 3A, and Farrell, who ranked first in 2A. Hunter Hohman leads the Eagle’s offense with 771 yards passing, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Hohman has also rushed for 272 yards and six scores. Anthony Nemec leads the Eagles on the ground with 623 yards and five touchdowns. Gavin Lutz and Nathan Greer have 270 and 256 yards receiving, respectively. Nathan Boyd leads the Eagle’s defense with 67 tackles.

About the Fairview Tigers – Schedule:

Fairview is making its second consecutive postseason trip, and the opponent will again be Grove City. Last year the Tigers were eliminated by the Eagles 42-7. Fairview uses a pair of quarterbacks, Tyler Corbin and Vinny Campoli. The two have combined for 1005 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Jared Gennuso has rushed for 1090 yards and 17 touchdowns. Jake Stalsitz and Charlie Chevalier each lead Fairview with 71 tackles on defense.


District 10 4A Title Game

Meadville (9-1) vs. Corry (4-6)

About the Meadville Bulldogs – Schedule:

Meadville has enjoyed an outstanding 2022 campaign finishing the regular season with a 9-1 record making them the seventh-ranked 4A team in the state. The Bulldogs have been as statistically dominant as anyone in the state, as they average 51 points a game and only surrender nine. Of the 90 points they gave up, 49 came during their only blemish, a 49-19 loss to McDowell on October 7th. The Bulldogs have two 1000-yard rushers that lead the way offensively, as Khalon Simmons leads the team with 1610 yards and 31 touchdowns in nine games. Brady Walker has 1189 yards and 15 touchdowns. Walker also leads the team defensively with 64 tackles and eight sacks.

About the Corry Beavers – Schedule:

Corry comes into the title game spotting a 4-6 record, including a 55-6 loss to Meadville in Week 1. Nolan Carey leads the way for Beavers throwing for 700 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has also rushed for 213 yards and three scores.

Cathedral Prep (8-2)

About the Cathedral Prep Ramblers – Schedule:

Cathedral Prep will be off for three consecutive weeks following an 8-2 regular season. The reason for the bye is a result of opt-outs by District 8 and 6 schools. Luke Costello, a Wake Forest baseball commit, has taken over as quarterback for the Ramblers and has 1062 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Suhtaun Lewis and Dajoure Hollingsworth lead the Cathedral Prep ground game with 714 and 572 yards, respectively. Hollingsworth has scored 11 touchdowns. Wakeem Page has 31 receptions for 463 yards and two touchdowns, while Camariyon Bridges has 21 catches for 389 yards and eight scores. John Koshan and Jyree Roberts lead the Ramblers’ defense with 64 and 60 tackles.


District 10 6A Title Game

McDowell (8-2) vs. Butler (4-6)

About the McDowell Trojans – Schedule:

McDowell will be looking for their fifth straight District 10 Class A crown on Friday night. The Trojans will come into the postseason season with a dominant offense that averages over 40 points a game. Artis Simmons has rushed for 1593 yards and 18 touchdowns. Ben Moore has thrown for over 1000 yards and added over 300 on the ground.

About the Butler Golden Tornado – Schedule:

Butler finished the regular season on a five-game losing streak, including a 48-24 loss to the Trojans two weeks ago. The Golden Tornado are led by quarterback Mac Schnur who passed for 1898 yards and 22 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Braylon Littlejohn has 31 catches for 554 yards and six touchdowns, while Dashawn Cox leads the team in rushing with 461 yards and two touchdowns, hauling in 41 passes for 432 yards and four touchdowns.
