Farrel scored 35 first-half points and pitched their first shutout of the season with a 35-0 victory over Hickory Saturday night. The Steelers continued their dominance as they cruised to their third straight mercy-rule victory in District 10’s Region 3.
“It was a good win, but I felt we could have put more points on the board,” said Farrell head coach Anthony Pegues. “We got a little conservative, but that’s on me. In the second half, we came out a little satisfied. In this region, there will be competitive games week in and week out.”
Farrell took the opening kickoff and broke the ice on a fourth-and-goal play as Kylon Wilson scored on a 4-yard run.
Late in the first quarter, Wilson scored his second touchdown on a 54-yard pass from Kabron Smith. Kylon Wilson finished the night with two rushes for three yards and three receptions for 59 yards.
Farrell’s defense got on the board to begin the second quarter as Zaire Thomas returned a fumble three yards for a touchdown.
“Our defense came to play,” said Pegues. “We were lagging behind a bit, but we’re going to work on that and continue to get better. As for splash plays, Kylon, Brandon, and Kabron are all playing at a high level.”
Brandon Chambers, who rushed for a game-high 138 yards on 19 carries, scored on a 45-yard run midway through the second stanza.
On the first half’s final play, Chambers hauled a 32-yard touchdown pass from Smith. Kabron Smith finished the game going 8-for-12, passing for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

“We showed that we can do a 2-minute offense,” Pegues said. “I’m proud of my guys because it was a nice team win tonight.”
Hickory was limited to seven first-half yards and spent the night with 68 yards of offense.
“That is a heckuva team, and let’s start with that,” said Hickory head coach Bill Dungee. “There were about five plays tonight that we didn’t make that could have this more competitive. We jumped offside to give them a first down and missed a tackle on fourth-and-goal. It’s been metal things that have been the story of our season so far.”
Daymar Trawick led the Hornets with 39 yards on eight carries, while Logan Woods was 1-for-11 passing for 20 yards with an interception.
“It’s the little mental things we need to fix moving forward,” Dungee concluded. “Our season is not over by any means, but there are some positive things we can take from this game and get better as a result.”
Hickory will look to break their three-game skid when they host Slippery Rock next Friday night.
Farrell will welcome Wilmington next Friday night.
