New Wilmington – Farrell cruises into the District X final after a 48-6 win victory over Seneca Saturday afternoon at Wilmington High School.

“I expected us to be a little rusty after not playing for two weeks,” said Farrell head coach Anthony Pegues. “There were some things we should have done better today. Overall it was a nice playoff win, and we’re happy to be moving forward.”

Though they hadn’t played in two weeks, you would’ve never known by the way Farrell started as Julius Phillips returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.

“That is always a huge way to start the game,” Pegues said. “If I were these other teams, I would stop kicking the ball deep to us and give these athletes the ball in their hands because you see what they can do.”

The Steelers then scored on all six offensive possessions with their varsity offense and opened up a 48-0 midway through the third quarter.

Kylon Wilson scored three consecutive touchdowns; his 2-yard run gave the Steelers a 14-0 lead after a quarter. Wilson then scored on receptions of 16 and 21 yards from Kabron Smith.

Brandon Chambers rushed for a 13-yard touchdown with 33 seconds to play in the first half, leaving Farrell one point shy of the mercy rule at the half. Chambers led the Steelers with 81 yards rushing on nine carries.

Farrell invoked the mercy clock early in the third quarter when Chambers caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Smith.

Following an interception by Chambers, Smith tossed his fourth touchdown and his third to Wilson from 30 yards out.

Kabron Smith completed 6-of-9 passes for 89 yards and four touchdowns. Kylon Wilson added three receptions for 67 yards, three touchdowns, 11 yards rushing, and a score.

“Kabron is the general, and that’s his offense,” Pegues said. “We all talk about how these guys need just to go out play, and play hard – they did that. We started to get the ball in Kylon’s hands, and he could do that. Our passing game was solid today, but I thought we should have run the ball better.”

Seneca got on the board in the fourth quarter when Nolan Seabury threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Collin Libra. Seabury rushed for 71 yards on 20 carries while completing 2-of-3 passes for five yards and the score. Ryan Miller chipped in with 87 yards on 22 carries.

“This was a special season for a special group of kids,” said Seneca head coach Jack Corey. “We played to the best of our ability today; they’re just an incredible football team. These kids were 2-38 before this season; for us to come together, win nine games, and send our seniors out like this is a tremendous accomplishment. I’m proud of our guys.”

Farrell moves on to play either Mercyhurst Prep or Sharpsville.

“That should be a great game having the opportunity to see them up close,” Pegues concluded. “We’ve played Sharpsville already this season, and I’ve seen the film on Mercyhurst Prep. I expect a great game from both teams tonight.”
