Farrell rattled off the game’s final 22 points and won their 5th-straight District 10 Class A title.

“This is a credit to those seniors, they buckled down when times were tough and got it done,” said Farrell head coach Anthony Pegues. “My hats off to Maplewood, they’re a tough opponent and a great team.”

The Steelers ripped off 479 yards rushing on 41 attempts and sent three players over the century mark.

Anthony Stallworth had a monster game rushing for 255 yards on just 15 carries. He ran for 241 yards on ten attempts in the second half alone.

“He’s a bull out there, he ran hard, and we kept on giving him the ball,” said Pegues. “ He’s a special kid.”

His 8-yard run at the 8:29 mark of the fourth quarter gave Farrell the lead for good. Stallworth then put the game on ice when he broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown. He also added a big gainer of 66 yards in the game’s closing minutes.

Jaden Harrison and Ray Raver also topped 100-yards rushing with 117 and 100, respectively.

“All three of those guys will tell you that it all starts upfront with our offensive line,” said Pegues.

Following a long kick return into Steelers territory by Kaleb Donor to open the game. The Farrell defense stood tall and turned the Tigers away inside their 30-yard line.

A few plays later, Harrison scored on a 52-yard run to open the scoring.

Farrell then saw its shutout streak come to an end as Donor scored from 11 yards out just over minute later.

“Honestly, when they got that first one, it was a relief,” said Pegues. “We can now just focus on coming out and playing rather than worrying about a shutout.”

The big play of the drive was when Maplewood’s brothers of Jesse and J.D McFadden connected on a 48-yard completion.

The McFadden combination would haunt the Steelers defense all night long. Jesse McFadden caught eight balls for a game-high 204 yards and touchdown. J.D, meanwhile, threw for 291 yards on 13-of-20 passing.

Jesse’s 3-yard touchdown reception helped pull the Tigers to within a point at halftime. Maplewood drove 87 yards in under two minutes as the McFadden brothers connected on passes of 30 and 39 yards.

“When things break down, J.D trusts Jesse to get it done,” said Maplewood head coach Bryan Borkovich. “They were a lot of guys that made great catches tonight. “

Sandwiched in between the Maplewood touchdown was Raver’s 6-yard run.

“J.D McFadden is the real deal,” said Pegues, “He moves well and is a very accurate quarterback.”

Farrell led 13-12 at halftime.

Maplewood was able to the lead when they capped their opening possession of the second half with Donor’s 8-yard run.

Farrell would answer back with Raver’s 5-yard run. However, an extra blocked point kept the Tigers ahead heading into the final quarter.

The game turned when Farrell recovered a Donor fumble after he ran for a first down to the Steelers 34-yard line early in the fourth quarter.

“We made some mistakes and were not able to overcome it,” said Borkovich. “It is what it is when you’re playing a great team. They’re well-coached and have great players. I knew we wouldn’t get blown out. I’m proud of my guys.”

Six plays later Stallworth would score from eight yards before his 59-yard touchdown iced the game after a Tigers 3-and-out,

Farrell now moves on to play District 5 Tussey Mountain in the opening round of the state playoffs.

“I want to give my hat off to these seniors for the way they’ve played this season,” said Pegues. “Now, we’ll focus on the state playoffs.”

Maplewood closes its great season at 10-1.

“We knew Farrell was going to be here,” said Borkovich. “We thought we had the players and scheme to give them a game, and we did. It means a ton to our program, and proves that this group was better than people thought, Outside of a win I couldn’t have asked for anything else tonight.”
