Stoneboro: Danick Hinkson scored four touchdowns as Lakeview pulled away from Saegertown 35-15 Thursday night.

“I know our potential on this football team,” said Lakeview head coach Bill Hickman. “We just needed to light the fuse tonight. My goal all week was I wanted our guys to play 48 minutes. In the past, we’ve given up too many big stretches to end games.”

Lakeview scored three consecutive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break open a 14-9 lead.

Saegertown trailed 14-7 at halftime and looked poised to draw even late in the third quarter after taking the kickoff and driving to the Lakeview 1-yard line following a 16-play drive that ate up 10:01 seconds.

However, on the fourth-and-goal play, the Sailor defense stood tall and stacked up Panthers quarterback Sully Zirkle for no gain.

“That 1-yard stand on the goal-line was enormous,” said Hickman. “These kids are starting to believe, and they’re making plays. My hats off to Saegertown. The one thing they did better than us last week was they played for 48 minutes.”

On the next play, Mitchell Tingley was tackled in the end zone for a safety.

Even with the safety, Lakeview recovered an onside kick to prevent further damage, which was the second time it had done that in the game.

Danick Hinkson would score his third touchdown for the game on a 5-yard run with 6:50 to play to put Lakeview in front 21-9.

Cameron Pence then intercepted Zirkle, which led to Hinkson’s 9-yard touchdown run.

Danick Hinkson and Mitchell Tingley each rushed for 85 yards on the night. Hinkson had 13 carries while Tingley ran 17 times.

“Danick is just starting to learn the position because this is his first year playing running back,” said Hickman. “We know he’s a track star, but sometimes that doesn’t equate to the field. Once his vision opens up, his ceiling is through the roof. We have a nice thunder and lightning combination between Danick and Tingley.”

Quarterback Cameron Pence rushed for 44 yards on six carries and did not attempt a pass.

The Sailors then blocked a punt that led to Sean Cole’s 4-yard run, which was the Sailor’s third touchdown in four minutes.

Saegertown scored their second touchdown of the night when Aaron Shartle scored from ten yards out with 1:22 to play.

Lakeview took the lead, scoring on their opening drive when Hinkson broke loose for a 38-yard run touchdown 1:56 into the game.

“Our offensive lit the fuse tonight, and they were sure to let me know that,” said Hickman. “Everyone stepped tonight, and they deserve this win.”

In a bizarre twist, Henry Shaffer tied the game in the second quarter when he picked up a punt and ran it back 73 yards for a touchdown.

On the next play, Hinkson returned the ensuing kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. Lakeview’s 14-7 lead held at halftime.

Shaffer led the Panthers with the special teams’ touchdown while adding two catches for 89 yards. Sully Zirkle completed 7-of-22 passes for 167 yards and two interceptions.

Saegertown will aim for their first win of the season next week when they host Cochranton.

“I need to watch the film to see what happened tonight,” said Saegertown head coach James Wolfgang. “This was a different team from last week. We need to regroup and be better next week.”

Lakeview will look to keep their momentum going when they play host to Kennedy Catholic next Friday night.
