North East outlasts Grove City, 36-34 at Grove City College

Grove City and North East played one contentious game neutral turf Friday night. With the visitors on the scoreboard coming out on top, 36-34 after a frantic second half. Leading by just 3 at the half, 17-6, thanks to two Carter Crozier touchdowns and a Josh Banaag field goal. To Grove City’s single score on the back of Jonah Stucchio.
Grove City closed the gap frequently throughout the final 24 minutes, but could never attain the lead. Opening the second half quickly with a 60 yard pass to Levi Toth to trail 17-14.
On their next possession, Grove City’s chances crumbled, as Pascal Laporte returned a Grove City fumble 70 yards for a touchdown. Giving the Pickers another two-score lead, 23-14 with 2:10 left in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter started quick with a 45 yard touchdown run by Jaxon Wilson for Grove City. Bridging the gap to 23-21 with nearly a full quarter left to play. However, Carter Crozier returned the ensuing kickoff for his first of two fourth quarter scores. A missed PAT, though, gave Grove City an opportunity.
Trailing just 29-21, Grove City drives the field and sets up a three yard run for Jaxon Wilson. The pass attempt was incomplete. A flag for pass interference by North East setup a replay, and again Grove City’s attempt was incomplete.
Nursing a slim two-point lead, North East takes a long drive and Carter Crozier caps it with his fourth score of the day from a short run. The kick gave North East breathing room, with a 36-27 lead with 5:41 left.
Jaxon Wilson, though, for Grove City was not done. And trundles in from 15 yards out. With 3:06 left, trailing 36-34, Grove City unsuccessfully attempts an onside kick. North East runs out the clock on their first win of the season, 36-34.
