After being humbled by McDowell the week prior, many people were wondering how Meadville would respond. The Bulldogs let the homecoming crowd at Bender Field know they came ready to play on the first snap of the game with an 83-yard run for a touchdown by Khalon Simmons.

“We were humbled last week,” Meadville coach Ray Collins said,” I was glad McDowell humbled us as they did. That loss took a little edge off us. So this week we were practicing and playing for the bigger picture — where do we want to go with this season and where do we want to end up?”

And Meadville responded — cutting through the fall chill in the air, was the red-hot Bulldog offense. Meadville seemingly scored at will, with seven different Bulldog players recording touchdowns in the game.

Simmons had another big night, notching three rushing touchdowns, 247 rush yards, and 110 yards throwing in the first half.

Brady Walker also had a big night for the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball with two rushing touchdowns, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

Other Bulldogs of note included an interception for a touchdown by Brighton Anderson, two rushing touchdowns by Amari Lewis, a receiving touchdown by Nic Williams, and a touchdown apiece for Jacoby Thompson and Jordan Lawrence.

“The key tonight was to get back to playing our brand of football. I thought our kids did a good job responding,” Coach Collins said.

With Meadville leading 61-0 at halftime, both teams agreed to play 8-minute quarters in the second half with a running clock.

Though Meadville looked sharp in most aspects of the game, penalties were still an issue for the Bulldogs — something Coach Collins wasn’t pleased with after the game.

“Our kids are ultra-aggressive and edgy, and they play with a hot running motor. You like that edge as a football coach, but it can also be to your detriment. And it has been in several games this year with penalties.”

With the 77-0 victory, Meadville improves to 7-1. Franklin falls to 0-7.
