“Sometimes your defense is going to bail you out. We’ll work on offensive mistakes this week, but big thanks to the defense tonight” said Tiger head coach Homer DeLattre to his team after his defense led the way to a 24-0 win over visiting Butler. Hollidaysburg extended its streak of scoreless opponents to 14 straight quarters with the help of 4 Tiger interceptions, 3 from Gavin Bell. “We only had about two plays that they really broke away from us tonight. He (Butler quarterback Alec Teff) took a lot of chances tonight. We knew they like to throw when they get down so we just stepped up” said Banks who had a pick 6 from 24 yards out to put the Tigers up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Mitchell Baronner got things rolling for the Tigers with a 4 yard td to make it a 7-0 game just three minutes into the contest. After the pick 6 by Banks, the Tigers went for a little surprise package with an onside kick. They recovered and drove to the Butler 10 where Paul Wedel booted a 27 yard field goal to put the Tigers up 17-0 with still 5 minutes to play in the first quarter. Then things settled down a bit and the Tiger defense took over. Gavin Bell picked off two Teff passes, the first of which gave the Tigers the ball on the Butler 4 yard line. Baronner rolled in for the final score of the game.
“We got them in third and long a lot and when they did move the ball we made big plays. We gotta be able to make adjustments (on offense). We made penalties on a couple plays we should have scored” said DeLattre.
Butler had a chance to score late in the half but with time almost gone Banks beat out a Golden Tornado reciever in the endzone and broke up a fourth down pass to preserve the shut out. Butler had a couple promising drives in the second half but the Tiger defense was just too much for them. Hollidaysburg travels to Mifflinburg next Friday while Butler will host Westinghouse.
