The Wilmington Greyhounds, ranked as the number 2 team in District 10, came into Sharpsville’s McCracken Field as heavy favorites over the Blue Devils. It took the Greyhounds a 21 point comeback to end up winning the game 28-27.

Sharpsville came out of the gates with an usual game plan to their usual run-first offense. The Blue Devils used the arm of sophomore quarterback Caulin Summers to find junior receiver Garen Levis for a 44 yard touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 7-0.

Sharpsville’s Summers threw to Levis again in the second quarter, throwing a 35 yard touchdown to go up 14-0. For the third time in the first half, a Summers to Levis pass resulted in a touchdown. Wilmington was able to claw back some points when senior running back Luke Edwards caught a screen pass from sophomore quarterback Tuff McConahy and go 22 yards into the endzone. The score ended up 21-7 going into halftime.

Wilmington scored on a double reverse midway through the third quarter when senior quarterback/wide receiver Cole McCallister completed a pass to sophomore running back Tyler Mikulin for an 87 yard touchdown. That brought the Greyhounds within 7 with the score at 21-14. Wilmington wasn’t done with the double reverse, doing it again when McCallister found McConahy in the endzone for a 16 yard touchdown and tying the game at 21 at the end of the third quarter.

Summers opened up the fourth quarter with his fourth touchdown pass of the night to Levis. Sharpsville took the lead 27-21 and with a chance for a field goal on the point after attempt to go up by 7. The Blue Devils had been 3 for 3 on the night on extra point attempts so far, but senior linebacker Skyler Sholler got past the line of scrimmage and blocked the kick. Allowing Wilmington to take the lead on a 14 yard touchdown by sophomore Ben Miller and an extra point by sophomore James Winters putting them up 28-27.

The Greyhounds got the ball back following several delay of game penalties by the Blue Devils. Wilmington needed a first down to take a knee and drain the clock. They play number one in District 10, Farrell, next week at home. Sharpsville falls to 3-3 and 1-3 in region play and they play at Kennedy Catholic next Saturday.
