2022 PIAA District XI Class 2A Championship Preview: Catasauqua Rough Riders(7-4) vs Executive Education Academy Charter Raptors(6-3)
Like DXI Class 1A, this is a first time meeting between these two schools, in football that is. The Raptors play an Independent schedule, and last year, won the Eastern Conference Finals in Class 1A/2A 34 to 8, ending their season with a 6-4 record in their first year of existence. One year later, they find themselves playing for another championship, a District XI Championship in Class 2A. Catasauqua will be trying to spoil the what some may call the Cinderella story season for the Raptors in their second season. Let’s take a look and see how these two teams compare and see if we can figure out a winner before they play this weekend.
STAT COMPARISON:
Catasauqua | EEACS | |
---|---|---|
155.2 | Rushing Yards Per Game | 104.4 |
85.7 | Passing Yards Per Game | 222.5 |
240.9 | Total Yards Per Game | 326.9 |
55.8 | Tackles Per Game | 51.8 |
0.8 | Sacks Per Game | 2.5 |
23.2 | Points Per Game | 23.3 |
This past Friday we saw two very good games that ended in upsets as they say with #4-Catasauqua taking down the #1 seed-Palisades Pirates 17 to 14 on a last second field goal to end the game. The day before, it was #2-Williams Valley losing to #3-Exec. Ed. Academy Charter 22 to 20 in a wild battle. Both teams come into the game riding win streaks, the Rough Riders going for a 3rd while the Raptors trying for 4 in a row that would also include a District XI Championship with the victory. Who will lead their team to the promise land, into the state tournament ?

Catasauqua, led by their senior quarterback Christian Fye, Fye has thrown for 891 yards, down a bit from last years totals through 11 games. Running the ball for the Rough Riders are senior Anthonie Hunsicker and Jyzaiah Bonilla who combine for 1298 yards on the ground, scoring 13 touchdowns. Ian Juica leads the way on the receiving core with 451 yards and 7 touchdowns. Leading the defensive charge for the Rough Riders is Chad Beller Jr., MLB/FB/C who racked up an impressive 159 tackles, 67 of which were solo according to sources. Beller and Hunsicker both have 2 sacks each. On the offensive side for the Raptors, well look out for their senior quarterback who has thrown for just under 1700 yards, on 107 of 189 passing, 18 of which were touchdowns, that said, he can get wild at times when not protected and has gotten into trouble at time, throwing 12 interceptions. Zamier Perkins, a senior RB, leads the backfield with 303 yards, scoring 3 touchdowns. Jyhmiek Roman. Damon Young and Emery Plummer head the charge outside accounting for 1183 yards receiving, scoring 11 touchdowns between the trio. Matthew Martinez and Cavin King, both seniors lead the defense with 67, and 50 tackles between them, with Martinez recording a team leading 8 sacks. Plummer, Roman and Cazhiere Richardson each have 3 interceptions in the secondary for the Raptors.
My Outlook: If the Raptors play like they did against Williams Valley, there is no doubts they win.
My Prediction: Raptors peck their way to victory 32 to 18 !
