Coach says: “Austin Casal is the kind of player every coach wants in their program. He’s disciplined, explosive, and has a relentless motor on both sides of the ball. Whether it’s special teams, offense, or defense—he makes an impact. His work ethic and football IQ set the tone for our team, and he’s absolutely one of the toughest kids we have and a pleasure to coach.”
LET’S GET TO KNOW AUSTIN!
Why do you play football?
I love the teamwork. I love being around my coaches and teammates to work for THE common goal at the end of the year: A team championship. Football also prepares me for everyday life at school, home, preparing for college and being with my family
It’s gameday! What are you looking forward to the most?
The Friday night lights. I love the atmosphere. The building up of the game. The nervousness, getting lost in my thoughts until I’m ready to explode. We have the greatest fans and alumni. I love hearing the fans during the game. When I put on that Notre Dame uniform I am representing and playing for them
Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?
Tim Tebow: He did everything in his power to help the team win. One of the hardest working athletes on and off the field. The most humble person I’ve read up on. It’s not about him but the team and family. He’s a crusader about his Christian faith also.
Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:
My first interception ever during our first game last year. Won’t forget that
What was last years season like for you?
It was a very successful year with a couple of very heartbreaking losses that haunted me for months. We were playing some of our best football at the end It is a long journey, and it ended too soon. I loved playing with and blocking for the top passing QB in the state of Pennsylvania and the country (Matt Bodnar). He made everyone around him better and I can’t wait to see what he does this year.
What are your goals for this coming season?
Work even harder than last year, push my teammates to be at their absolute best by being the leader I cherish to be and win a State Title. We are as loaded and talented in every position not to be State champs
Who is the best player you ever lined up against?
Every week is a challenge and every player I face is the best. I have to be at my best or I let my team and coaches down
When the game is on the line, which college/professional coach would you like to call in the play?
Nick Saban
What stadium, HS/college/pro would you love to visit for a game?
The University of Alabama
What is your favorite Pro team, any sport?
New York Yankees & Dallas Cowboys
What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?
Our game against Garden Spot last year. The offensive tsunami by both teams. Watching my QB (Matt Bodnar) break some records in the process. It was a roller coaster ride
What sports movie would you watch every day if you had to pick one and why?
The Program: the intensity of what playing football is like. The adrenaline rush, the hitting, the injuries and the ups and downs of the game
If your mom and dad are screaming at you from the stands, what is it they usually yell?
I hear my mom yelling “Let’s go AJ” throughout the game and my dad is always yelling something about dominating my opponent
Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?
Carry the football for a game winning touchdown in a State title game😁
Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?
Jesus Christ. He died for my sins. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for me and I want to mirror what he does for others
Name a sport you’d love to play but can’t:
Basketball: too short and slow
What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
Cramping up on the field a couple of years ago and I had to be carried to the trainers office to get iced down in the nude
Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?
My Aunt. She’s at every game and she’s louder than my parents
When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?
I love collecting sports memorabilia. My father started collecting for me and my brother when we were babies and it’s carried over
What is your favorite football memory to date?
There’s lots but winning to championships during my youth football days was memorable
What is your favorite play to run?
I love screens. It gives me a chance to run down the field and lay into someone
What scares you the most?
When my sports career ends. It’s not work for me. It’s always been fun. I love the team aspect. Being with my brothers and coaches
Music of choice:
Rock
What was your favorite gift as a little boy? Why?
An electric motorcycle
What restaurant is your go to when you need a big meal?
Mama’s Italian Restaurant in Hackettstown, NJ
