NEW TRIPOLI- October 17th was the last win for the Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks a 7-0 shutout over Easton. Since then they lost two in a row to rivals Bethlehem Freedom and Allentown Central Catholic by a combined score of 80-3.

So coming into their District XI 4A quarterfinal playoff game with Blue Mountain at Northwestern Lehigh’s Tigers Stadium Saturday afternoon, coach Joe Henrich wondered how his team would respond, and when all was said and done, his team came out on top 17-0 to advance to next week’s semifinal

“Wins are hard to come by, especially on the heels of two tough losses,: Henrich said. “It’s not an easy thing to have the mindset to come back out on the other side. I was happy with the win.” He concluded.

Becahi jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring on their first two possessions. The Golden Hawks went 80 yards on just 8 plays, scoring on 27 yard run by quarterback Luke Thomas. The second score was setup by a 30 yard punt return by Rahmel Terry. They went 35 yards on six plays capped off by a eight yard pass from Thomas to Eric Wert with 1:25 on the clock. That score remained till intermission.

The defenses continued to be the story in the second half as, Blue Mountain started the opening drive of the second half at their 20 yard line, but got pushed back to inside the ten, on fourth down, and punting out of the end zone, a shank gave the Hawks the ball at the Blue Eagles 15, but Becahi cold only muster a 35 yard field goal by Anthony Barczynski.

Terry recovered a Blue Mountain fumble near midfield and was tackled inside the Blue Eagle ten again, but they could not punch it in. A botched snap on the field goal try and subsequent run by Ian Kish came up just short of the goal line.

Neither team could muster any kind of significant drives the rest of the way giving the Golden Hawks their third victory in a row over Blue Mountain in the playoffs.

Bethlehem Catholic will try to avenge a loss in “The Holy War” against Allentown Central Catholic, more than like that game will be at J. Birney Crum Stadium.
