Bethlehem Catholic Rebounds To Defeat Liberty.

BETHLEHEM- After being shutout last week 21-0 to Nazareth, the Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks knew they had to get back to the basics in there game with cross-town rival Liberty. Friday night using a strong rushing attack and balanced passing game they got back on track with a resounding 42-17 victory over the Hurricanes at Bethlehem School District Stadium before a sparse crowd.
Liberty managed to score first with a 52 yard screen pass from quarterback Byron Haydt to Kyndred Wright who tight-roped down the sidelines for the score to make it 7-0 with 7:37 left in the opening period.

Then the Golden Hawks started to roll by scoring 28 straight points to take a 28-7 lead at intermission. Signal-caller Jared Richardson first connected with Eric Wert, who was wide open down the seam for a 49 yard score to even the game at seven with 5:33 on the clock.
On Liberty’s next possession, on fourth down, on the punt, the ball seemed to touch the Becahi returner, Liberty jumped on the loose ball and to have excellent field position, but the officials said there was illegal touching by the Hurricanes and awarded the ball to the Hawks at their 32. It took them just one play to cash it in as Rahmel Terry ripped off a 68 yard run to make it 14-7.
Richardson went back to their air for the next score as he found Ian Kish in the corner of the end zone for a 16 yard score and 21-7 lead 2:20 into the second quarter.

The Richardson to Werts connection hooked up again with a 48 yard score, after Liberty fumbled the kickoff near the Hawks sidelines making the score 28-7.
Liberty temporarily stopped the bleeding with just seven seconds before halftime as Haydt found Jack Rauthenhauser on a crossing route from a yard out to cut the lead in half.

Richardson, who completed 13 of 17 passes for 189 yards and 2 TD’s, found Jacob Stoudt for a 34 yard strike after rolling out to the sidelines and lofted the pass, Stoudt had to adjust to make an over-the shoulder catch to extend to a 35-14 lead.

Placekicker Sander Sahaydak booted a 41 yard field goal for Liberty to get the Hurricanes within 18, but then the Hawks kept the ball on the ground and chewed up most of the clock. Defensive back Ian Kish, then picked of a Haydt pass in the flat and took it to the house from 45 yards as only four seconds left in the contest.
“I thought we ran the ball well in the first half. They (Liberty) made some adjustments that we didn’t do a good job picking up in the second half.” Bethlehem Catholic Coach Joe Henrich stated.
Bethehem Catholoc 2-1 overall will face Easton next week. The Red Rovers will by at BASD Stadium Saturday night to face Freedom. Liberty will try to get back on track against Northampton, who dropped a 27-17 decision to Nazareth Friday night.
