BETHLEHEM- The focus of the Bethlehem Catholic’s defense was on Easton’s Sophomore quarterback Cole Transue and the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s leading rusher Nahjee Adams. On Saturday night at BASD Stadium, mission accomplished as the Golden Hawks limited the Red Rovers to just 152 yards of total offense and sacked Transue four times, while producing four turnovers in their 16-6 win.

The EPC South title is still up for grabs as Nazareth leads the division at 6-1 (7-1 overall) followed by Bethlehem Freedom (7-1 overall, 5-1 EPC South) who is a half-game back. Then there is a three-way tie for third with Bethlehem Catholic, Easton and Parkland all at 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the division.

Tavion Banks led Bethlehem Catholics rushing attack with 24 carries for 112 yards and scored both Golden Hawks scores.

Banks scored on short runs of 1 and 3 yards in the first half to give his team a 13-0 lead at intermission.

A third quarter 34 yard field goal by Anthony Barczynski extended the lead to 16-0

Easton finally got on the board with just under 10 minutes left in the contest on a 10 yard run by Transue on a 4th and nine. The 2-point conversion failed that would have made it a one score game.

The Rovers again got in the red zone, but a fumble near the end zone was recovered by Bethlehem Catholic and they were allowed to close out the game.

“We played aggressive football tonight in all phases. We ran to the football, not relying on just one guy to make the tackle. Our pursuit was outstanding.” Bethlehem Catholic coach Joe Henrich stated.

Adams was held to just 48 yards on 13 rushes, he came into the contest with 1,333 yards so far this season.

Easton will be back in the friendly confines of historic Cottingham Stadium with a date against Parkland Friday night. Bethlehem Catholic will be on the road at EPSD Stadium to face 4-4 Emmaus.
