WILSON- It was a coming out party of sorts for Northwestern Lehigh’s sophomore receiver Justin Holmes. Seeing his first full-time action this season, Holmes set the school record for receiving yards Saturday afternoon at the expense of the host Wilson Warriors at Smith field on a dreary afternoon.

Holmes caught seven passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns, breaking the mark of Trevor Cunningham, who had 184 yards in 2016. Holmes missed the first couple of games due to nursing a hip injury.

Tiger quarterback Deven Bollinger completed 13 of 25 passes for 265 yards and five touchdown in a 49-30 Colonial League win. Bollinger is a University of Delaware recruit also had 121 yards rushing in the contest.

Wilson kicked off the scoring barrage as quarterback Cayden Stern connected with Zack Gillen for 28 yards 4:31 into the contest. Gillen found the end zone again for a 65 yard score with 4:07 left in the quarter.

Sandwiched between the two Wilson score. Bollinger found Paul Huff for an eleven yard score. Holmes got his first score of the game on a receiving end of a 63 yard pass to make the score 14-14 heading into the second quarter.

The Tigers would take a 27-14 lead heading into intermission as Bollinger hooked up with Holmes on a fade route from 10 yards out and then running back Nick Henry pounded in from four yards out. Henry preserved that lead as he pick off a Stern pass on the goal line and returned it 35 yards as the quarter came to an end.

Northwestern seemed to put the game out of reach with 7 minutes left in the third quarter as Henry darted in from four yards out and Bollinger connected Domenick Harding for the 2-point conversion making the score 35-14.

However, on the ensuing kickoff Damian Simpson sprinted in for an 88 yard score. Wilson placekicker Lorenzo Sigue nailed a 29 yard field goal with 2:02 left in the third to make the score 35-24 heading into the final twelve minutes.

Wilson got as close as 35-30 with 8:59 left to play as Stern connected with Dylan Goldworth from 27 yards out, but the conversion pass fell incomplete.

The Tigers then put the game on ice as Bollinger dropped a 56 yard dime down the sideline to Holmes. Nick Holmes was on Bollinger’s last scoring pass from four yards out.

“I have to give Wilson credit. Every time we were up by a few scores and looking to put the game away, they scored. Northwestern coach Josh Snyder stated. “We also gave a gritty performance, at the same time we anawered their scores back as well.” He concluded.

Northwestern (3-1) will be at home next week with 2-2 Bangor, who were shutout by Southern Lehigh 49-0 Friday night. Wilson will face winless Catasauqua next weekend.
