RUSHING

Shane Simpson rushed for 278 yards and 6 td’s in the win over Whitehall.  Simpson also caught 2 passes for 44 yards and his 7th td of the game.  The 7 td’s breaks the 89 year old record of Jim Hanlon.  Hanlon had 6 td’s in a game in 1925.  Simpson now leads the District with 20 td’s.  His 64 career td’s is one shy of the school record held by Juan Gaddy.  Gaddy scored 65 td’s from 1989-92.  Simpson is tied with Jonathan Linton of Catasauqua and Rashonn Drayton of Central Catholic for 15th all-time in the District.  Simpson also went over 3,000 yards for his career and now sits in 3rd place all-time at Easton with 3,277 yards.  Whitehall’s Saquon Barkley scored 4 td’s in the same game and now has 19 td’s on the season and 51 for his career.  Barkley went over 1,000 yards for the season (1,050) and is now Whitehall’s all-time leading rusher with 2,841 yards.  Nick Kurtz (1996-99) had 2,764 career rushing yards and still holds the District 11 record for a single game, when he rushed for 429 yards vs Freedom in 1999.  Barkley has now scored 4 td’s in each of the even numbered games (2, 4, 6).  Michael McDaniel of Bethlehem Catholic scored 3 td’s in a win over East Stroudsburg North and now has 46 career td’s.  That ties him with Erik Marsh for 4th best all-time at BECA.  Gerald Douglas of Stroudsburg rushed for 242 yards and 5 td’s in a win over Pocono Mountain East.  Douglas moves ahead of Dave Paffenroth on the all-time rushing list at Stroudsburg and into 4th place with 3,309 yards.  His 46 td’s moves him into 3rd place all-time at the school.  Paffenroth had 3,010 yards and 45 career td’s from 1976-78.  East Stroudsburg North had another set of runningbacks rush for over 100 yards in their loss to Bethlehem Catholic.  Thomas Melchiorre ran for 135 yards, while Elijah McBride ran for 127 yards.  Will Casella of Schuylkill Haven went over the 5,000 yards in his career and now has 5,003.  Casella has scored 63 td’s in his career which places him 18th all-time in the District.  Hunter Harner of Tri-Valley rushed for 180 yards last week and 3 td’s to help the Bulldogs upset previously unbeaten Juniata.  Harner now has 2,083 career rushing yards and has scored 31 td’s.  Nate Farber of Northern Lehigh rushed for 253 yards and 2 td’s in a loss to  Catasauqua.  Farber, now sits one yard behind Hunter with 2,082 career yards on the chart.  Evan Culver of Saucon Valley rushed for 251 yards and scored 3 td’s in their win over Pen Argyl.  Harry Hall of Northwestern is now in 3rd place all-time at the school in career rushing yardage.  Hall’s 2,478 yards moves him ahead of Austin Bleam. Bleam had 2,466 yards from 1999-02.  Next up for Hall is current head coach Josh Snyder who rushed for 2,653 yards from 1994-97.  Junior, Wyatt Clements of Lehighton now has 30 career td’s.  Bud Moyer of Tamaqua ran for 218 yards and 4 td’s while teammate Tyler Skripko ran for 139 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Minersville.  They became the first pair of teammates to each have double digit td’s for the season.  Moyer has 10, while Skripko has 11.

PASSING
Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic threw for 242 yards in their win over East Stroudsburg North.  Spigner has thrown for 542 yard in the last 2 weeks and now has 30 career td passes.  Nazareth’s Travis Stefanik threw for 223 yards and 2 td’s in a win over Central Catholic, while CC’s Mason Kholi went over the 2,000 yard career mark.  Kholi now has 2,103 yards.  Doug Erney of Liberty now has 3,499 career passing yards, moving him into 3rd place all-time at the school.  Mike Wykosky had 3,465 yards from 1996-98.  Travis Edmond of Southern Lehigh threw for 277 yards and 4 td’s while also rushing for a td in their win over Palmerton.  The 4 td passes ties the school record held by his brother Ty, who threw 4 td passes against Berwick in 2011.  Edmond now has 44 career td passes.  Frank Dangello of Northwestern also threw for 4 td’s and had 1 rushing td in their win over Salisbury.  Dangello now has 40 career td passes and joins the “40 td club”.  Edmond and Dangello have combined to throw for 7,650 yards and 84 td passes.  They will square off this Friday.  Junior, Tevon Weber of Salisbury threw for 214 yards and a td in the loss to Northwestern.  Weber now has 1,062 yards on the year and 2,086 for his career and is inching closer to getting on the first page of the chart.  Jake Cirillo of East Stroudsburg South made his first start of the season and threw for 240 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Pleasant Valley.
RECEIVING
More on Shane Simpson here.  Simpson now has 98 career catches for 1,446 yards and 14 td’s.  He needs 2 more catches and 54 receiving yards to become the first player in District 11 history to rush for over 3,000 yards, catch a 100 passes and have at least 1,500 receiving yards.  The closest player to do that was Frank Morici of Notre Dame.  Morici rushed for 3,146 yards and had 111 catches for 1,002 yards from 1988-91.  Jarey Elder of Parkland just went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career.  Elder now has 1,032.  Freddy Simmons of Bethlehem Catholic went over 1,000 yards receiving for his career and now has 1,002.  For the 6th straight week we had a player have at least 3 td catches in a game.  This week it was Cam Richardson of Northwestern.  Richardson’s 4 td catches smashes the single game school record of 2, set by several players.  He also scored a 5th td in the game on a 57 yard run to tie the school record of five held by 3 players.  Carson Wentz vs Pocono Mountain in 1970, Joey House vs Palisades in 1972 and Brett Snyder vs Palisades in 1995.  Richardson is also tied with Larry Caamano with 73 career receptions and is now the sole owner of td catches in a season with 9.  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh holds a slim lead over Jacob Kober of Catasauqua for most receiving yards this year.  Price has 593 while Kober has 584.  Nate Stewart of Pius X takes over the District lead for receptions.  Stewart caught 10 passes in the loss to West York and now has 38 receptions.  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth drops down to second place with his 35 catches.
OTHER
Nico Ruiz of Stroudsburg kicked a school record 47 yard field goal in their win over Pocono Mountain East.
Week 6 Trivia: Name the other 6 players who had over 2,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving for their careers.
Week 5 Trivia: Michael McDaniel has 43 career td’s which puts him in fifth place all-time at Bethlehem Catholic.  Name the four players ahead of him.  1. Eddie Scipio 66 td’s (1998-2001), 2. Tim Barlock 62 td’s (1996-98).  3. Bob Tarola 55 td’s (1965-67). 4. Erik Marsh 46 td’s (1987-90).  McDaniel scored 3 td’s vs ESN and is now tied with Marsh.
Week 4 Trivia: Palisades Christian Gretzinger needs 3 yards to break the school record for career rushing yards.  Name the player who holds the record.  Brian Hahn had 2,678 yards from 2002-05

Week 3 Trivia:  Name the three teams in District 11 that have never had consecutive years with a 1,000 yard rusher.  Allen (1972, 86, 93), North Schuylkill (1968, 75, 2008, 10, 12), Salisbury (1973, 82, 93, 99, 2001)
Week 1&2 Trivia:  Let’s try this again.  Which District 11 team had the most consecutive years with a 1,000 yard rusher? Northern Lehigh holds the record with 10 consecutive years (1996-2005).  It started with Mike Lilly and ended with Nick Hosford.  Bethlehem Catholic missed out on a streak of 14 years when sophomore Lee Brennan fell 18 yards short in 1993.  Brian Baker was injured early in the season and was lost for the year.  Brennan replaced him and finished the year with 982 yards.  QB Danny Kendra III had 696 yards.  Parkland was 2nd with 9 consecutive years (1995-03).  Current streaks that are still alive, are Schuylkill Haven with 8, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley with 6, Whitehall with 5, Stroudsburg with 4 and Pleasant Valley with 3.  Five of these teams has a player on the chart.
