Marian Catholic’s KJ Sneer ran for 124 yards and 3 td’s in a win over Minersville to improve the Colts to 3-0.  Sneer also had a 31 yard td reception and now has 7 total td’s for the year.  Shane Simpson of Easton rushed for 143 yards on only 5 carries and 2 td’s in a win over Northampton.  Simpson also had a 22 yard td reception and now has 49 career touchdowns, moving him into 2nd place all-time at Easton.  Ovid Goulbourne had 48 from 2001-04.  Juan Gaddy is the Rovers all-time leader with 65 (1989-92).  Whitehall’s Saquon Barkley rushed for 276 yards and 3 td’s in a win over Pleasant Valley and now has 560 yards rushing while racking up a total of 9 td’s.  Barkley has 41 career td’s, putting him one behind school record holder Eric Fiore who had 42 td’s from 2009-10.  Jacob Clouse and Anthony Cruz of East Stroudsburg North each rushed for over 100 yards in their win over Allen. Clouse rushed for 172 yards and Cruz had 155 yards and 3 td’s.  Will Casella of Schuylkill Haven added 2 more td’s to his career totals and now has 60.  That ties him with Mike Tracy of Marian Catholic (1978-80) and Niko Petrone of ESS (2011-13) for 22nd place all-time in District 11.  Casella still leads the District with 610 rushing yards.  Joe Santos of Freedom rushed for 103 yards and 3 td’s in a win over Emmaus.  Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley rushed for 190 yards with 2 td’s and caught 5 passes for 29 yards and a score vs Whitehall.  Borre now has 37 career touchdowns which breaks the school record of 36 td’s that Rob Getz piled up from 2009-11.  Christian Gretzinger of Palisades rushed for a school record 269 yards and 4 td’s in a win over Catasauqua.  Owen Breininger held the old record when he rushed for 234 yards against Bangor on opening day in 2001.  Gretzinger’s 4 td’s in the game, ties his personal best and also ties the school record which is held by 7 different players.  Wyl Miller of Emmaus went over 2,000 yards rushing in his career in the loss to Freedom.  Miller now has 2,021 yards and 30 career td’s.  Dominic Shivone of Palmerton scored 3 td’s in a win over Bangor.  Shivone had 2 td receptions and 1 rushing td.
Doug Erney of Liberty threw for 354 yards and 5 first half td’s in a win over Nazareth to break 2 school records.  His 354 yards breaks the 47 year old record of 347 yards held by John Rabuck.  The 5 td passes breaks the old record of 4 held jointly by Rabuck (1967), Jim Villani (1975) and Erney himself when he did it in 2012 as a freshman.  Erney now leads the District with 726 yards passing.  Catasauqua’s Cristian Burker threw for 206 yards in a loss to Palisades.  Catty has 2 quarterbacks that have at least 200 yards passing in the first 3 games.  Burker has 277 yards and Brandon Keks has 208 yards.  Travis Edmond of Southern Lehigh threw for 255 yards and 2 td’s on 25 completions in a loss to Saucon Valley.  In the process Edmond broke his brother Ty’s career td pass record of 35.  Edmond also joined the “4,000 yard” club and now has career totals of 4,175 yards and 36 td’s.  Tre Jordan of Pius X still leads the District with 10 td passes this year.  Mason Kholi of Central Catholic, Zach Thatcher of Saucon Valley and Doug Erney of Liberty are tied for second with 8.  Northwestern’s Frank Dangello threw 3 td’s in the win over Bangor to tie the school record again.  Dangello is tied with 3 other Tigers.  Junior, Ian McCole of Shenandoah Valley went over 2,000 yards passing in his career and now has 2,066.  Other fellow junior quarterbacks within 2,000 career passing yards are Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic (1,998), Tre Jordan of Pius X (1,984) and Bobby Grigas of North Schuylkill (1,963).
Jake Kober and Ricky Houser of Catasauqua both had over 100 yards receiving in their loss to Palisades.  Kober had 7 catches for 143 yards (2 td’s) and Houser had 4 catches for 105 yards.  Both players have over 200 yards on the year with Houser leading the team with 247 yards and Kober 2nd with 220 yards.  Freddy Simmons of Bethlehem Catholic had 3 catches for 54 yards and a td vs PM West.  Simmons also had 3 punt return touchdowns in the game and now has 4 punt returns and 1 kick-off return for td’s this year.  Simmons leads the Golden Hawks with 8 total td’s.  Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh caught 7 passes for 184 yards in the loss to Saucon Valley.  Price has 11 catches on the season for a whopping 32.7 ypc and now leads the District with 360 yards.  Cam Richardson of Northwestern caught 7 passes for 79 yards and 2 td’s and also rushed for 81 yards and another score.  Richardson now has 991 career receiving yards and pulls to within 82 yards of Larry Caamano career record of 1,073 yards.   Caamano compiled that total on 73 catches from 1989-91.  Izaiah Avent of Liberty, caught 4 passes for 71 yards and 3 td’s in the win over Nazareth.  The 3 td’s falls one short of Joe Donaher’s record in 1967.  Donaher caught 4 td passes from John Rabuck against Neshaminy.  Liberty has 4 players with over 100 yards receiving for the year.  Darius Jones (174), Avent (137), Eli Hall (133) and Josiah Wright (101).  Jeff Yordy of Pottsville Nativity had his 2nd 100 plus yard game this year.  Yordy caught 6 passes for 123 yards in their win over CMVT.
Nate Farber of Northern Lehigh ran for 102 yards and 3 td’s in a 20-15 win over Wilson.  Nate would also run for a 2 pt conversion and score all of Northern Lehigh’s 20 points.  With just over 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the Bulldogs down 15-8, younger brother Ryan ran 30 yards on a fake punt to shift the momentum to Northern Lehigh.  At the time, older brother Nate had 10 carries for only 30 yards and a 3 yard average.  But on the next two plays, he ran for 7 yards and a 24 yard touchdown.  He would score the game winner on a 20 yard run in the 4th quarter and average 6 yards per carry on his last 12 carries.  Nate was a 1,000 yard rusher last year and has 238 yards so far this year.  Nate and Ryan’s father, Chub was a former runningback at Northern Lehigh.  After backing up three time 1,000 yard rusher Dale Beck, Chub got his chance as senior in 1981 and continued the streak by rushing for 1,015 yards.  Northern Lehigh would not have another 1,000 yard rusher for the next 8 years before Mike Reichard ran for 1,043 yards in 1990.
Week 3 Trivia:  Name the three teams in District 11 that have never had consecutive years with a 1,000 yard rusher.
Week 1&2 Trivia:  Let’s try this again.  Which District 11 team had the most consecutive years with a 1,000 yard rusher? Northern Lehigh holds the record with 10 consecutive years (1996-2005).  It started with Mike Lilly and ended with Nick Hosford.  Bethlehem Catholic missed out on a streak of 14 years when sophomore Lee Brennan fell 18 yards short in 1993.  Brian Baker was injured early in the season and was lost for the year.  Brennan replaced him and finished the year with 982 yards.  QB Danny Kendra III had 696 yards.  Parkland was 2nd with 9 consecutive years (1995-03).  Current streaks that are still alive, are Schuylkill Haven with 8, Tri-Valley and Williams Valley with 6, Whitehall with 5, Stroudsburg with 4 and Pleasant Valley with 3.  Five of these teams has a player on the chart.
