Parkland lines up for the game-winning field goal in a 21-14 win over Easton

EPC SOUTH PICTURE GETS SOME CLARITY

Week two in the EPC didn’t have a whole lot of huge surprises, but Whitehall’s win over Bethlehem Catholic Saturday was not a huge surprise, but it’s how they did it that surprised everyone.

Parkland scores 17 unanswered points in the 2nd half and stuns Easton.

Emmaus holds a very good Bethlehem Freedom team to 6 points and beats them 13-6.

Allentown Central Catholic just gets by Bethlehem Liberty 14-7, as all three Bethlehem schools lose in week 2.

Whitehall 49, Bethlehem Catholic 14

With everyone back from last year’s District XI class 5A Championship, The Zephs were not really sure what they had for this season. They were clamoring for a huge win over a South school. On Saturday at Bethlehem School District Stadium they got that win. Whitehall scored 7 times on 7 possessions in the first half and rolled to a 49-14 win.

Senior quarterback Quinn Wentling ran for 72 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns.  He also passed for 10-12 172 yards and a score in a rout.

Allentown Central Catholic 14, Bethlehem Liberty 7

Allentown Central Catholic behind three interceptions by Nasir McClean (Catasauqua quarterback last year) took a hard-fought contest from Liberty. It was running back Travis Foster’s 9-yard run for a touchdown at the 2:03 mark of the 3rd quarter that won it for Allentown Central Catholic. Central Catholic goes to 2-0 and Liberty falls to 1-1 early in this season.

Parkland 24, Easton 21

Easton roared out to a 21-7 halftime lead at Cottingham, stadium. A 22-yard field goal by Griffin Mitstifier, once a soccer player, wins it for the Trojans with 2:25 left to play in the game. Trey Tremba set up the kick with a 42-yard punt return. For Easton, Marcus Williams rushed for 226 yards on 23 carries for 2 scores.  While Parkland quarterback Ty Tremba threw for 192 yards on 12 of 19 passes and 2 touchdowns and a pick. Marcus William’s 85-yard touchdown run seemed to put the Red Rovers in control with 11:48 to go in the third quarter. Brock Boyer had three sacks for Parkland on the night.

Northampton 33 Pocono Mountain West 6

Northampton came out sluggish in this one, as Pocono Mountain West to an early lead on the first drive of the game. A 45-yard touchdown run by Jaden Bowens opened it up for the Panthers.

But Northampton took the lead when running back Jaelen Richardson ran it in from two yards out to give the Konkrete Kids a 7-6 lead. Kicker Vincent Santostefano booted a 40-yard field goal to give Northampton a 10-6 advantage at halftime.

EPC has some really good kickers this year. Northampton added a safety later and the defense dominated the second half en route to a 33-8 win.  Northampton goes to 2-0 on the season.

Running back Caden Henrity ran up 126 yards on 22 carries and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Cooper King completed 15passes on 24 passes for 157 yards on the night for the Kids.

Nazareth Area 43, Louis E. Dieruff 6

After a blow-out win over East Stroudsburg North last week, Nazareth Blue Eagles continued its dominance of the EPC with a 43-6 win over an improved Dieruff squad. Wide Receiver Nolan Lobb took the second-half kickoff all the way for a touchdown and Nazareth then led 27-6.

Senior Jake Hilarczyk raced 62 yards for a touchdown, lengthening Nazareth’s lead to 43-6 for the win. Nazareth goes to 2-0 and Dieruff falls to 0-2.

Stroudsburg 44, Pocono Mountain East 0

Stroudsburg came out fighting in all areas of the game after being stunned by Liberty last week.

The first quarter was scoreless. After that, it was all Stroudsburg.

With its 44-0 win over Pocono Mountain East, Stroudsburg returned to a favorite in the North. After 51-0 rout at the hands of Emmaus Week, 1 left questions about Stroudsburg, but a win over East puts all of that behind them.

Junior, running back, Andre Reames Jr. scored 4 touchdowns in the win.

East Stroudsburg South 47, William Allen 12

The Cavaliers after being stunned last week come to Allentown and rout the Canaries 47-12.

Emmaus 13, Bethlehem Freedom 6

Emmaus has had troubles with Freedom over the years, but this year it’s the defense that came to play and the Green Hornets beat the Patriots 13-6 at Emmaus High School.

Pleasant Valley 54, East Stroudsburg North 0

Pleasant Valley played its first game of the season and it did so in a huge way as they pounded under-manned East Stroudsburg North 54-0 in a battle between two northern teams.

WEEK #3 EPC PREDICTIONS by SSS (Last week went 7-2 and is 14-4 on the season)

Nazareth (2-0) 23, Parkland (1-0) 21

Nazareth comes into Orefield, PA with a 2-0 mark and 2 routs on their resume.  Parkland won on a thriller in Easton 21-20.  Parkland has FReedom next week too.

Bethlehem Catholic (0-2) 28, Pocono Mountain West (0-2) 14

Bethlehem Catholic is searching for its first win and so is Pocono Mountain West. In this one, it’s the Hawks with its first win of the season.

Bethlehem Freedom (1-1) 20, Easton (1-1) 17

The loser of this will be 1-2 in a very tough South Division. Two losses early will hurt either team?

Whitehall (2-0) 31, Bethlehem Liberty (1-1) 17

Saquon Barkley comes back to Whitehall to have his jersey retired. Whitehall coming off that big rout of Bethlehem Catholic needs to put that one behind them or a much-improved Liberty team will sneak upon them.

Northampton (2-0) 24, Stroudsburg (1-1) 17

This one I had thought maybe for the North title. It still could be for the North title. Stroudsburg will give the Kids all they can handle.

Pleasant Valley (1-0) 40, William Allen (0-2) 3

Pleasant Valley comes to Allentown and this one will be ugly.

Pocono Mountain East (0-2) 24, East Stroudsburg North (0-2) 14

Someone has to win this one. East has a better roster.

East Stroudsburg South (1-1) 30, Louis E. Dieruff (0-2) 16

South needs this win, but Dieruff is a tough and much-improved team. South still prevails.

Emmaus (2-0) 15, Allentown Central Catholic (2-0) 10

Emmaus is just way too much for Central Catholic in this one. That Emmaus Defense is really good.
