Blue Mountain – 35

Lehighton – 0

Blue Mountain came into Thursday night’s game at the beautiful Lehighton’s Mult-Purpose Stadium on a positive note, winning the previous week 28 to 0 over Tamaqua.  Thursday night proved no different as right from the start, on the first play of the game, the Eagles defense made a statement with Gavin Bartholomew intercepting Lehighton’s Fronheiser, and ran it back to the end zone for a 25 yard pick 6, the extra point was good to give the Eagles the lead 7 to 0 with just :21 seconds off the clock.

As time wound down in the first quarter, the Indians fumbled the ball deep in their own territory, and the Eagles recovered the fumble.  After just 5 plays, the Eagles added to their lead when Carter Thompson ran it in from 5 yards out, again, the extra point was good to give the Eagles the lead 14 to 0.

The defense for the Eagles, like last week, bended but never broke, in the second quarter, the Eagles offense had 3 possessions and scored touchdowns on all of them, with the first coming when quarterback Gavin Bartholomew connected with Bryce Hensley for a 35 yard touchdown, the next two came when senior running back Eman Parker scored on runs of 30 and 3 yards to give the Eagles a halftime lead of 35 to 0, which ended up being the score at the end of the game.

Lehighton did have a few things go right when late in the second quarter, Fronheiser connected with Zach Hunsicker for a 46 yard gain down to the Eagles 6 yard line, though time had expired in the first half. The Indians defense did however record a few sacks in the game, 4 of which came from Hunter Crum resulting in 23 yards lost. The Eagles also a few sacks of their own at key times of the game to slow the little momentum Lehighton did have.  In the second half, it was basically all defense for both teams as there were no points scored.  Midway to late in the 3rd quarter, Lehighton’s defense step up and intercepted a pass from Gavin Bartholomew at the Indians 31 yard line with 6:45 left in the quarter, the Indians offense just couldn’t get anything going.  Once again as at the end of the first half, Lehighton had a few bright spots on offense when on one play, Indians Freshman quarterback Brady O’Donnell connected with Zander Hartman for 36 yards to get the Indians 1st and 10 at the Eagles 10 yard line. The Eagles, as they did the previous week, as well as in this game, made sure the defense didn’t break, not allowing Lehighton  to score any points on the drive, resulting in a turnover on downs, the Eagles finished the game by running a few plays to run the time out.  When asked at the end of the game how he felt going into the next game, Eagles coach Cory Mabry had this to say… ” I feel pretty good, we got some very good momentum going right now, I’m happy. ”  Mabry said during that 3 game skid, ” those 3 games were painful, look back at them, teams we played, thought we out played them, but unfortunately, on the scoreboard, we didn’t, the good news is, these guys never quit, kept practicing, came back, beat two very good teams, Tamaqua, now Lehighton, pitching two straight shutouts, putting up nice points, playing very good defense, I feel we are right where we want to be now, making a statement, moving forward. ”
