Here we are, finished with week 5 of the 2023 season and gearing up for the home stretch of what at least to me seems like a rapidly accelerating football season. Here in the EPC, the South Division is getting a majority of the hype with it being home to the only 2 remaining undefeated teams, Bethlehem Catholic and Parkland. Let’s take a look around the league as a whole and see what it looks like mid-way through the season…
North Division:
Team | Wins | Losses |
Northampton | 4 | 1 |
Pleasant Valley | 4 | 1 |
Pocono Moutain West | 3 | 2 |
Stroudsburg | 2 | 3 |
East Stroudsburg North | 1 | 4 |
Pocono Moutain East | 1 | 4 |
East Stroudsburg South | 1 | 4 |
Dieruff | 0 | 5 |
Allen | 0 | 5 |
The North division is headed currently by Nothampton (4-1) and Pleasant Valley (4-1) with Pocono Mountain West (3-2) hot on their tails. Northampton and Pleasant Valley will match up in 2 weeks at Northampton to potentially crown the North Divison champ. However, Pocono Mountain West has a chance to play the role of spoiler in this potential divisional champ matchup as they face off against Pleasant Valley this upcoming friday. Outside of Northampton, the other North division teams may not end up in the EPC title discussion, but they will be looking to make that push for playoff contention at the end of the regular season.
South Division:
Team | Wins | Losses |
Bethlehem Catholic | 5 | 0 |
Parkland | 5 | 0 |
Allentown Central Catholic | 4 | 1 |
Nazareth | 4 | 1 |
Whitehall | 4 | 1 |
Liberty | 2 | 3 |
Easton | 2 | 3 |
Emmaus | 2 | 3 |
Freedom | 1 | 4 |
The bulk of the talk around the EPC this season is centered around the South Division and deservingly so. The top 5 teams in the division still have a shot at the division crown and potentially the EPC crown as well. The 2 undefeated teams of the conference, Parkland and Bethlehem Catholic will face off in 3 weeks in Orefield. From what I’ve seen this year this will most likely be the de-facto championship game for the league. Parkland has been easily handling all their opponents so far this season outside of Nazareth who pushed them to the limit, but came up just short of taking down the Trojans. Bethlehem Catholic has been somewhat of a surprise this year in the league however their strong showings so far this season have proven them to be a tough and legitimate contender for the EPC crown. Central Catholic, fresh off a suffocating loss to Parkland at J. Birney Crumb Stadium looks to rebound from their first loss with a strong 2nd half to their season. They will start out with a tough matchup, and potentially the EPC game of the week, against Nazareth this upcoming Friday 9/29. This matchup as well as the Parkland vs Whitehall matchup this week will set the tone for the 2nd half of the season in the EPC.
This 2023 season is just flying by and we here at PAFootballnews look forward to covering what is left of EPC league play as well as the team’s respective drives in to the playoffs.
